Thread Starter | Wiring up my 2x12. help please!!!!?!?
so i start making my 2x12 this week, gonna be sweet but... i bought 2 eminence legend 125's. they are 8 Ohm speakers. im putting and Orange Tiny Terror through the cab when its built. The tiny terror has 2 8Ohm outputs and 1 16Ohm output on the back. im under the impression that 2 8Ohm speakers = 4Ohm cabinet? am i right? how should i wire this together? parrallel or series or what? Regards, Dan |

| For 8 ohm wiring (parallel) (I got this wrong - see post below) use the 8 ohm out and wire the speakers in parallel - i.e. 2 sets of + and - wires coming right off the socket to the speakers parallel is good cos you'll still have 1 spkr working if the other fails 16 ohms - 2 x 8 ohm spkrs in series - You'll need to use the 16 ohm with 2 wires >>> spealer 1, then 2 wires >>> speaker 2 from speaker 1 terminals

thanks for the fast reply, really appreciate it! but whats all this im hearing about 2 8Ohm speakers = 4Ohm output and 2 16Ohm speakers = 8Ohm output? will it affect volume? because i need it to be as loud as it can |

| Ah sh!t - You're right in your case 2 x 8 ohm speakers in parallel = 4 ohms and 2 x 8 ohm speakers in series = 16 ohms Soooo - you have a 16 ohm socket and you can wire them in series a la Vox AC30 - Impedance mis-match and volume - well its still bloody loud, having done that myself... the tone is slightly different, but negligible at least with my setup - Volume is more dictated by the speaker sensitivity... so if yr speakers are 100db/w at 1m like Cel Vintage 30's, you have a very loud 2 x 12! (looks like your spkrs are same sensitivity, so basically you're maximising the potential volume from your tiny terror)

Well at 15 watts - when its cranked I will certainly be nice and loud, but it won't be clean/loud, it will be phat and overdriven with the EL84s Depends on the nature of your band, really I was referring to my 50 watter when I said "really loud" |

quite dirty. its not metal though. ok i know this is probably the wrong place to ask this but you sound like you know your stuff. im currently measuring up to but tolex covering. top and bottom panels and 2 side panels and i added everything up and it comes to like 0.7metres sq now thats not a lot. am i doing my maths right? the bottom and top panels are 0.742 x 0.3 = 0.2226 ? doesnt seem right |

Maths - not my strong point ![]() What are the surface area measurements in millimeters of each side to cover? (length/width) including the bits you need to tuck in/around the edges/corners? What about the back panel? Perhaps some maths gurus will help you on this one. |

im so confused. just say i wanna cover 1 panel right. its 742mm x 300mm in metres thats 0.742 x 0.3 = 0.223 how can i cover a panel thats almost a metre long with a quarter metre squared? doesnt make sense!! lol |

Don't forget to include a few extra mm to go round the edges. perhaps just use the width length measurements - do you need to specify to the supplier or something? yeh I see what you mean - that is correct though! 742 x 300 = 222900 mm square = 0.22 m squared |
