The Best $1000.00 Acoustic Guitar?

So, The title says it all.

I'm a drummer looking for an acoustic guitar.

I actually think I want a nylon string/classical style. (don't ask. I just do)

Obviously there are dozens to choose from. I don't think I need to spend more than a grand though. I'm a drummer, I can't play guitar worth a crap anyway.

I've taken a quick look at a few.

How are Cordoba guitars?

Or Rodriguez maybe?

Any suggestions or links would be appreciated.

Godin Guitars

Norman Guitars

The starting point for looking at a wide range of choices is the Godin guitars website. These guys are wizards at making very good acoustic guitars for any money, between $300 and $1000. At a certain point, closer to $1000 you can get into solid wood, inboard pickups, and cutaways.

There's all sorts of product (dealers) in the US and they even have a plant in NH.

Obviously Larivee is another great (Canadian) Guitar, and it now also has a big plant in the US. With Larivees I think you'll end up starting a $900 to $1000 street, but for sure that will be a solid wood, more or less hand crafted (but factory built) guitar.

I've guided one person into a Godin built guitar. I think it was either a Seagull or Norman guitar...Good deal -- only $350 CDN

I have a friend with a Norman.

Very nice.

I'm not sure if we even have a Norman dealer local any more.

I just want to make sure I don't buy a piece of crap. I'm willing to spend right up to a grand for one. I don't want to buy a 3-$400.00 guitar really.

I'd rather spend a few more dollars and get something nicer.

I'd head over to Concord to Mullis Music: Welcome to Mullis Music Co.

Good selection and good folks. I bought my La Patrie (a Godin company) nylon string there (very good sounding for the money) and have been extremely happy with it.

The ideal thing is to find a shop that has Norman, Larivee, and a couple of other guitar makes. I'm sure there are some good sound Epiphone guitars, also Yamaha or Ibenez, but obviously you would have check to see which price point off solid wood (as opposed to plywood.

This is where patience is a must.

I spent months looking and finally purchased a Larrivee P-10 parlor for recording.

In this market an older Larrivee would be an excellent choice.

That's great. Thanks for the reminder.

I've heard of Mullis but have never been there.

From recommendations from my friends and here I think I will probably go with one of the Godin family of guitars.

I really want a Nylon/Classical though.

I hope I can find a good one.

I think I'll go and check out Mullis tomorrow.

Where are you around here Mr. Scrubs?

I'll let you know what I come up with.

I went to Mullis today.

They had alot of nice machinery in there.

I didn't get to look around too long because I had my 5 year old son with me and he kept trying to pull $3000.00 guitars off of the wall.

I figure I'll go back when I'm alone.

Can anyone comment on Cordoba Guitars?

This is the model I'm curious about.

It goes for $1000.00 at most shops I've seen. Including Guitar City.

No one seems to know very much about them.

I found one of these on the local Craigslist.

I wonder if I should go look at it.

It's for a decent price.

Ok guys and gals, Thanks for all the input on this thread.

I ended up getting one of these from Mullis Music.

Thank you Scrubs for the tip. They were awesome.

I couldn't have had a better buying experience.

They were helpful but stayed out of my way and let me have my way with every guitar on the shelf.

They gave me ice cream as I was shopping and a Mullis Music t-shirt with my purchase.

They even gave a t-shirt to my buddy that went with me to help me pick out an instrument. And he didn't buy anything.

He did say that he will be going back for any future purchases.

The guitar is sweet. It's all solid wood. It feels good and sounds good. It came with a nice reinforced gig bag.

For the money it's gonna be hard to beat.

Now all I have to do learn how to play it.

Cool, man. Glad you found something you liked and they treated you right. The Seagull's I've played have all sounded great to my ears. Enjoy it!
