Does your bass stay in tune? If so, then I wouldn't bother changing them.

Have you thought about getting a 3 band eq?

yeah it stays in tune alright, yeah that's true i prob shouldn't change em' out then.

I would break down and get a p-bass, but i'm kinda really short on cash, and since my friend's dad owns a music store i'm able to get a 20% discount, and i know that means that it would cut the cost of a bass, but it's still a bit expensive for me

I have got a bass collection fretless jazz copy, but I have good emg's and a 3 band eq. It sounds better than a fender Jazz with stock pickups imo.

As long as it is made out of half decent wood and isn't ply, then I wouldn't worry about it. Fred Wesley's bass player uses a Squire with EMGs, for crying out loud.
