Ughh... after hearing a Dr. Z combo tonight, I gotta get closer to that smooth, butter sound. The guitarist I hire in has a Hot Cat Badcat head, Dr.Z cab, and all it takes is a SM57-->LA-610 and it's the most forward, polished, buttery, glorious sound ever. The obvious answer is for me to trade in the DeVille for something like a Dr. Z Carmen Ghia and shell out an extra few hundred bucks; but what can I do to the DeVille to get closer to that sound? Change out one of the speakers to something else? Crank the clean channel and use a Full-Drive pedal? (I only have a MXR Carbon Copy delay and MXR DynaComp.) I do mostly contemporary country. |
