Aiming to Complete a Live Metalcore Rig

Hello there. I own a peavey triple xxx head and currently playing out of a 4x12 hartke cab with celestion 100's in it. my guitar is a dean razorback explosion v255 with emg 81and 85 set up to dropped c on 11 gauge strings. i also have a line6 pod x3live multi fx pedal going through the fx loop for clean modulations and noise gate. ive tried looking everyrwhere for settings lists and tone ideas but im lacking that heavy tone that bands like killswitch engage, and parkway drive give me. im really looking for that full powerful tone that those bands give out. then i heard of rackmountable gear and that pros go for rackmount stuff. if anyone can please help me achieve this sound, please let me know. pretend like i have a great budget for awesome gear. i dont care what i need to buy or how i have to set it up, i just want the right information to guide me in the right direction. any positive advice will be greatly appreciated.

Not too bad. I'd suggest a Front-End Distortion/Overdrive pedal (Pre-Input), might help controlling the amp better if you run it clean, and EQ from there.

Don't forget, a lot of that tone is production, layering, etc.

Here's where it's interesting. Some bands will run multiple Heads and Cabs, to get a blend of tones. Look up, as an example, AFI.

His tone is a combo of 2 Marshal Plexis, an AC-30 and a Mesa Rectifier. He (Jade Puget, guitarist) runs all with a Blues Driver as distortion, and balances between his Heads to get that sound.

Try: Compressorv--> Dist. Pedal (With a moderate amount of gain) --> Amp input (Clean, Bass = 4, Mid = 6, High & Presence = 4, Gain = 2) => FX unit in FX Chain = Compressor on FX => FX in --> Cab.

Remember - That metal guitar sound isn't about roaring distortion, but ballsy crunch. Too much gain will ruin what you're trying to get.

So if i get something like an od808 and put that before the input, when i slam on to the crunch channel, do i more punch? A lot of people have also mentioned the BBE Sonic maximizer 482i for my setup. They explained that with the od808 and the right tweaking, i should get a really clear and powerful sound. I know that a lot of bands have that produced sound on a recording, but i just recently watched parkway drive perform and their live sound was unbelievably powerful and "in your face" so to speak. I've also been told to go for other amps like the 6505+, mesa triple rectifier, or ENGL Powerball. Is it my amp? Should i switch over to something else?

If it's the Killswitch tone you're looking for then you need the EMG85 in the bridge, into a tubescreamer (not to add gain, just to tighten things up) Peavey 6505 and a Mesa Rectifier 4x12"

Don't go too crazy with the gain and get the amp dialed in nice and you should be set.
