StrapLock Noise - Any Clever Solutions?

Hi Folks,

So to all you straplock users - I'm sure a lot of you can hear your straplocks rattling in your amp's speaker (they're obviously being picked up by...err...your pickups!)

Anybody thought of a solution? it would be great if the straplocks were coated in rubber or something....hmmmmmmm

Is this more of an issue for you live or when you are recording in the studio?

Umm... don't play with a strap/ take the straplocks off and replace with a regular strap?

Look, I know that I could gaffer tape my strap on which looks cool on some people / bands / instruments but I'm NOT gonna gaffer some of my instruments.

Grolsch washers are great but they have failed in the past (i.e. come off during a gig)

So that leaves me with straplocks that have NEVER failed me (or countless other folk) - their only tendancy is to slightly unscrew now and then so basically as long as they're checked, they're pretty amazing little instrument-savers (and embarrassment savers!)

I'm sure this must be a common problem and I'm sure that some GS user has found a cheeky solution.....

You could probably just wind a little bit of cloth around the locks as a temporary recording fix.

A little oil as recommended on the package goes a long way. I had the same problem and couldn't believe it was so easy to fix (once I did it)...while you're at it, rub a dryer sheet on the pickguard to get rid of the static too.

If recording, you can put a normal strap over the straplock buttons, and then fix the actual straplocks onto the button without attaching them to the strap. This way, the strap is fixed between the straplock and the button, which eliminates the "clink clink" noise that the straplocks can make.

I had a set of (edit: Dunlop) StrapLocks that squeaked, & that squeaking got picked up by the pickups. The solution wound up being a combination of WD40 and Teflon plumber's tape.

I use straplocks on all of my guitars and basses and have never had that issue. Maybe put a small piece of cloth between the strap and straplock.
