How many Cabs can I run with my amp?

I've got a fender Hot Rod Deluxe. When the main 12 inch speaker is plugged in, it runs 8 ohms to the speaker and the other jack also sends out 8 ohms.

If I'm running that jack out into a 2 X 12 also, does it split the amp's 40 watts between the 2 jacks?

Also, the 2 X 12 has a 2nd jack that I can send into another 2 X 12 that I have. Would that hurt the amp at all or would it just split the wattage from the 2nd jack into 4 speakers instead of 2?

This feels like a dumb question.. If all speakers are running parallel, does each one of them get the full watts load? In this example, if each jack gets 20W because I'm using both, does each of the speakers get a full 20w or is it divided?

Thanks,
Rich

The power will get distributed to all the speakers equally assuming they are all the same impedance.

Remember though, every time you add a load in parallel you will lower the impedance. You can only go so low before your amp won't allow you to add any more speakers.

Most tube amps only go down to 4 ohms and if you go lower than that you can severely damage your amp.

all 4

all four of the speakers in the two 2 X 12's are 16 ohms and each cab is wired for 8 ohms. Is that going to be o.k. ya think?

if each cab is 8 ohms then when you put them together you have a total load of 4 ohms... you really don't want to do that. I would stick with the single extension cabinet

unplug main speaker

Last question on the subject. If I want to use both 2 X 12's, I can just unplug the main speaker and use the two output jacks to power the two 8 ohm cabs, right?

Thanks again.

Yes, you can do that.
