He can play with another guitar.
It does not matter whether the guitar is technically valuable or not.
Stolen from his house or stolen from the stage makes ZERO difference. Stolen is stolen.
It's his and it means something to him. END OF STORY.
You should be fvcking ASHAMED of yourselves you callous a$$holes!
It's a bit callous to say, "serves him right." I don't think anyone really wishes thievery on anyone if they thought about it. But I think you are getting a little over-riled about what you deem "negative".

I don't care whether someone tours with irreplaceable guitars - that's their business. But guitars get lost, stolen, broken on tour, so you can't whine it it happens. I haven't heard that Peter Buck is whining or spiraling into depression over it, just sad and offering a reward, which is fair enough. They probably should have had better security. It's not an insurmountable loss.

I see bluegrass guys playing $200,000 Gibson Loar mandolins at community halls.

But I think those whom you are calling "negative" posters are just mostly those whom are shrugging and saying that for the rest of the guitar community, it's a rather insignificant loss. Two hours with a new Ricky and the memory of the old one will fade.

It's not an iconic guitar, as it would be if it was something irreplaceable in the pantheon of iconic guitars. You'd get a different reaction if it was Gilmour's serial no. 00001 strat or Buckingham's Turner Model 1, or well-worn SRV guitar, or that Hank Williams Martin Neil Young has. It's just a regular old Ricky owned by farmer-chording Peter Buck, which just isn't that exciting.

Means something to him, doesn't really mean anything to anyone else. It's not really newsworthy.

I used to steal lots of shit in my youth. I feel terrible about it. Today, I wouldn't steal a pack of gum.

People can change. Trust.

Anyway,

I read an article recently about REm and they said they were playing smaller venues this time. Maybe thats to do with it. Less money for the tour. Smaller venues, less professional staff. etc..

Yeah, they've been making them for laptops and other small, yet critical components for years.

But here's the rub. How do you install one, without making it noticeable, and without changing the sonic characteristics of the device?

//btw: they usually use more than one or two in an installation, so you have to multiple that problem by 2-3.

They'll never sound the same!

many moon's ago, a good friend of mine saw a guy walking out of the building we were rehearsing in with one of my acoustics(gibby heritage). He could tell it was mine because of the sticker on it that said "Make my day". Well, he was walking with his rottweiler and let him take a run at the guy. Needless to say I got the guitar back

So, in other words, if he cares about his guitar, you mock him because he's being unreasonably sentimental, and if he doesn't care about the guitar, you mock him because he's "Hollywood." You mock him. You're a mocker. A mocker on the internet. Someday you can look back and say, "I mocked them all, nobody mocked them like I did."

I have no idea what you are talking about. What does Radiohead have to do with this?

If you're referring to my deleted post. Paraphrased from memory:

"Why is this thread still going, or a thread in the first place? If the former, because you're part of the reason. If the latter, because it's shocking news to discover that one of your favorite guitarists guitars has been stolen by the hands of someone who deserves to have them cut off. It's a heads up to the guitar world to be on the look out for this particular piece of gear.

Sentimental value is a bit difficult to recover with insurance. To discuss how sentimental, or why he should of left it at home in the first place is pointless.

Sucks. Hope they get the bastard."

Well, I understand the attachment to a well-used and familiar tool. And the guy who stole it is scum. No excuses.

If it was me, though, I wouldn't take a thing like that that I really valued on tour. Even with good security, there's too much that can go wrong. Fires, floods, truck crashes... I recall reading in an old Rush tour program about Alex Lifeson losing the Gibson double-neck that he recorded "Xanadu" with. He took it on tour, and during a sound check, a PA stack fell on it.

Yes. He lost his doubleneck and his Les Paul (or was it the 335? It's been a long time since I read the article) to the same PA stack. It was why he switched over to Strats. He went to the store to buy a replacement for the gig and thought "why not?" And the rest is history.

Peter found his guitar. Sadness has been replaced with rejoicing.

I have a bunch of guitars but only really attached to three of them (two tele's, one PRS).
I'm not sure I would run into a burning building for them, but probably pretty close to having to really think about it.

I also have favourite underwear.

Are you calling me stoopid?
