Thread Starter | bass buying question?
Just starting out on the bass and ready to get one. Is $200 dollars a good price for a Fender Jazz Bass (Indonesian made)?

sorry...i think its a Squire, I have to check with the guy who's selling it. I really liked the Geddy Lee when I tried it out, but I think I should start with a lesser priced bass first.

Not sure where you're located (most people at the site i'm referring seem to be from the US), but go to talkbass.com and check out their classifieds section ( For Sale: Bass Guitars - TalkBass Forums ). Tons of used stuff of all brands/styles, in all price ranges. You'll be able to get more bass for your money if you buy used, and likely be able to sell it for close to the same $$$ if you decide you don't want it. The Squier stuff can be pretty decent for the $$$, but there's lots of other stuff out there too. --- c |

I'd honestly say that if that's your budget, save up a couple hundred bucks more and buy a mexican made Fender. They're really not that far off from the American ones, and it'll save you from having to buy yet another bass when you've had your Squier for a while and realize it's a piece o' crap. Really. |

Try craigslist man. You can definitely pick up a squire or one of the old ibanez fender jazz copies for cheap. Sometimes people slap together really nice basses themselves using Warmoth parts - these can be really nice too and much less expensive than a brand name.
