Thread Starter | fender precision classic 50 and pickup
hello i've bought that precision classic 50 reissue made in mexico.. wow SOUNDS GOOD! it has these mids that really jumps out.. the differences between it and my jazz bass is that has less lows (the E string in my '78 j-bass is HUGE) but more growl and less highs but more mids around 1/1.5khz i think. and is plenty of sustain and every note sounds the same, i mean that there aren't gap on the neck, if you play a E on the D string sounds at the same level of a A on the E string for example.. i mean very balanced. it's a very new vintage sound, i mean has the tone of a vintage bass but you hear that is a new bass (i can't explain better, but who has a vintage one knows what that means, kind of magic) well i've written all those things just because is the first fender new bass that i really like A LOT usually i don't like any new fender bass. but i've opened this thread because i've heard that this bass works a lot better upgrading the pickup. actually i don't feel urge to upgrade them, the bass works, i haven't touched any settings.. but i would like to know more about pickup because i've no experience with them. so i'm asking.. could you suggest me some pickup for p-bass and describe how they sounds which character they impart, which characteristics... THANKS! |

Well, I can't advise you re: different pickups, but I put Fender flatwounds on mine and it sounds great. I don't intend to change anything on it hereafter (if I can help it).

me too.. i've put some flatwounds.. d'addario.. but really i'm curious to try it with the roundwound 220 exl.. usually are my favorite strings.. very brilliant and full of harmonics.. with the flatwounds have a solid sound, but i don't know.. i would like it more brilliant and harmonic rich what i would like to know about pick up is what people are looking for in a pick up and the differences between pick up that works well on a precision.. i really never considered pickups |
