Got the Hot Rod Delux for 425!! Good deal?

I have some good overdrive pedals.

I have a marshall 4 X 12 cab and an avatar 2 X 12 for them to plug into.

Which do you think is a better deal for a nice fender sounding amp?

Thanks,
Rich

Got the hot rod

Got the hot rod deluxe for 442 out the door (used) at Guitar Center. It's the 40 Watt 1 X 12" version.

I think it sounds amazing. It's way too loud..really. I need a power soak of some sort for this thing.

Yay!

See?..I stimulated the economy..thanks G. Dubb.

Go ahead and have these mods done if you can:
The Unofficial Fender Hot Rod Deluxe Owner's Guide! | The James E. Vanden Berg Mods

I bought a used 2000 HRD for $325 and had all of those mods, except for the lead mode bass boost and sparkle mods, for $150 by a local amp tech. Replacing the speaker and having these mods done makes the amp about 20x's better tonally and more usable volume-wise.

Oh yeah, and pumping a Fulltone OCD through the clean channel is bliss.

i LOVE my HRD. but be warned, as mentioned earlier, this f***er is LOUD.

i can barely keep in under '1' at my place without the neighbors starting to bring out the pitchforks and torches.

This is kind of a farce on Fender's part. You go to your local guitar store, plug in to the HRD, turn on the amp, set the master to 2 or 3 and say to yourself "holysh*t, this thing is loud! It must really crank at 7 or 8!" In reality, there's very little additional gain once you go over 4 or 5... and not a ton of difference up to that point either. Obviously a ploy to sell more amps. They used a linear taper pot instead of a audio taper, which provides a smoother transition as you turn it up. This is also covered in the mods that I linked to above.

I had the HRD and sold it and the guy that has it now sold it.
Another guy I know a real amp builder did all the mods and then replaced the cab and sold it... Its pretty good if your playing live at a club?

I still think you might find your self wanting something more.

chrisp2u is 100% correct!

any way..
