| replacement speaker for Polytone Hi there! I have a Polytone MiniBrute II (from the '70ties I think) amp and I want to replace the 12" speaker. What speaker do you guys recommend? I play jazz guitar through it. Thanks! M.

The definitive speaker for jazz is the EV-12L. It doesn't color your sound and it takes ridiculously loud levels to actually get the speaker to breakup. The downside is the weight.

Unfortunately any EV's magnet is too deep to fit in a PolyTone MiniBrute. These are notoriously shallow sealed back combo amps, so it's tough to find a "high quality" replacement driver that'll fit. To the OP: can you get the original driver re-coned? That's what I've done w/ my MiniBrute.
