Extending cord with a DI?

Hi,
I suffer from a longer then ideal run from my control room to my guitar booth. I have tried the Little Labs extender which allows you to put the guitar signal down XLR tielines but to be honest, it's not worked well so far. The distance from guitar to amp is 12-14 yards and since I don't have any guitar cords that long, I stick a DI box in the middle, using the link out. My question is: Is this totally passive or is the BSS DI actually boosting the guitar signal?

If the signal is not being boosted, then I guess I'll get a long cord especially made for the job.

Edit: My intention here is not to in any way to cast doubt on the Little Labs STD but I have found through experience that some freelancers need a simpler way of extending their signals.

DI the guitar into a preamp, run the line level signal out to the guitar, then re-amp it using a passive DI backward, or a dedicated re-amp box. I do this all the time with a MEQ-1NV, and it works great.
