| Blues Jr speaker mod sort-of-issue OK - just popped a Celestion Blue into my Fender Blues Jr (along with a set of JJ 12AX7s) However, the bell (is that the right word? I'm new at guitar amp DIY) sticks out a lot further than the stock Eminence speaker. In any case, it's a hella tight squeeze. It basically touches the metal electronics enclosure, and the rear wood panel bows ever so slightly at the fattest part (although I was able to get all the screws in without difficulty). Is this dangerous/ill-advised or anything? Everything powers up fine and and sounds great, but I'm worried about prolonged/future high-level usage. I read somewhere else on the internets about 'removing the bell' on the Blue... is that possible/easy? I won't be using the amp at anything higher than '2' on the master in the near future, but would like to know if this was not a good idea and/or what to do about it. |

| alrighty, solved my own problem - just as I read, the bell cover has to come off. in case anyone needs to know, you have to tear through the Celestion sticker on it, wrench that screw out and then pry it off the glue. a bit of a pain in the arse, but it works, and now everything fits (barely!) this was a nice amp to start with, now it's f*cking great. I'll explore some actual electronics mods in the summer probably, but I've already improved it by 100% at least. |
