Mesa/Boogie Combo...Meet Floor! Pic!

Just tossin' this out there (no pun intended).

A dude in one of the other bands we (used to!) share a room with got blackout drunk and decided to go to the rehearsal space...result;

My Mesa .50 Caliber + combo 1x12 hit the floor, having been tossed from atop a 4x12 half stack.

It does turn on, but nothing; no sound. The cabinet is all banged up, joint smashed on one corner, and now the chassis sits pretty outta' whack in the cabinet (physical damage seems only to be to the wood...chassis doesn't appear bent or anything).

Umm...anybody's amp ever try to fly with a drunk bass player strapped to it?

I'll call my local tech tomorrow a.m.

Just trying to get a feel if I'll be amp shopping on his credit card...if my favorite (yet simple) ol' early-Mesa/Boogie combo is now trash. For the record, he's a great friend, it's "all good" on that end and he's gladly covering any and all costs, even if it means a new amp.

Thanks for any experiences/input.

That really sucks.... repairs may be half of what the amp is worth or more. The good thing is that if you like the older Mesa combos it won't be hard to replace and it will be easier on him financially. I recently got a DC-5 combo for around $600 in excellent condition.

I can also sympathize with that guy, because I've been that guy - my great friends directed me to get some help, which was ultimately the best solution for everyone. People were usually really tolerant of the fact that I'm a drunk - we are musicians after all - but even that wore out eventually. Damaged relationships are by far more difficult to repair than broken stuff. I certainly don't mean to be preachy - it's just something I can relate to, and by all means take it or leave it! Good luck with your amp!

Ha! True about "jam drunks..." Funny stuff! That's an honestly heart-felt story too, not preachy at all man...that's great you've been "there and back!" Props!

Well, good news! It's repairable and not that expensive, and it's getting a total re-tube while it's there...I thought it was going to be real bad, but luckily not so much.

The cabinet's going to be just a tad of wood-working (some bar clamps & wood glue, sheet rock screws), nothing too elaborate, and only the one corner is busted open.

A big "pheeeeeww!" I really, really dig that amp...

Thanks guys!

Those things are built like tanks.

Props to Mesa for making something that would even light up after a tumble like that.

Hell yeah, that's good news! Those things must be built like tanks. Glad to hear it! I guess if I ever drop mine I won't have to freak out about it.... but let's be real here: there would be a ten second period where I would just be inconsolable.

The Rock Gods Decided It's Not Yet Time For My Amp!

Thanks a ton hombres! Yeah I'm psyched! Funny...instead of an inconsolable 10 seconds, I was kind of in a disbelief stuper. You never know until it happens!

The chassis/all guts is at my local tech, and while there he popped in a couple new tubes, and even though it cut i/o a tad (power cable got kinked really bad) I was able to actually play it! I never thought I'd hear it again!

DAMM GINA! Mesa does build these things like tanks, eh? "This guy took a shot" like Kris Novoselic at the 1993 MTV Video Music Awards!

Here's my pseudo-woodworking abilities being put to the test (I did take a wood/sculpture class in art school...6 years ago now?):

Even checked it with a level and to my suprise everything's lined up almost perfect! You'd have to get up 6 inches to the right corner to even see a tear in the Tolex, it's almost seemless! I just saved my buddy $300! (That's what Mesa quoted me over the phone for a new cab...)

So guys, he's footing the bill for the tech, but what about "pain and suffering!?"

I'll update & post a pic when it's all tip-top again...I think mid-next week!
