Love the guitars on "Dig" --- all ProTools plugins and no amps. That kinda floored me.

Was expecting it to be a Fender amp with the EH Deluxe Memoryman. Lovely wide sound, an dthe neck pickup tone is perfect for this track. His playing and tone reminds me of John Frucsiante's although I do prefer Einziger

And pulled from his homebrew pre-production demo, no less.

I think it's funny as shit that for the fact that he doesn't really care about his gear that much (as long as it works) that thousands of people are trying to find what gear he uses and copy his tone. It's a riot.

I also found it interesting that he says that their bass player is a bigger gearhead, AND a better guitar player than he is. I find it funny, because most fans wouldn't have thought or realized it, but that happens SOOOO often and fans have no idea. I've been in bands that the drummer is a killer guitarist, but they needed a drummer. There's normally one guy in each band that is the 'best' musician overall, and kills all of the other guys theory-wise and instrumentwise (for the Beatles Paul was obviously this guy, as he had to play half the guitar parts, and show Ringo how to keep time often!).

People probably assumed in 1993 that Kurt Cobain was a better guitar player than Dave Grohl. Not saying that the Foo Fighters > Nirvana, but technically Dave is 10x the player of several instruments than the other Nirvana members.

Mike is a little of a gearhead. I toured with them in 2000 and he had more gear on the road than he ever used. He had 3 pedal-boards all chained together, crap was always breaking down, but he always insisted on having everything up and running. I tried to convince him once to get a TC G-Major and midi his rig, and he would rather have inconsistent pedals, than a rack. Anyways, his tone was Mesa Road Kings and PRS HollowBodies.....not difficult to copy.

I've got a Gibson Les Paul running into an MXR Dime distortion and a Fender Blues Junior (though I want a Mesa/Boogie Road King and Vox AC30C2), and I can get his tone pretty well. I just turn everything but the gain on the distortion to about 12 o' clock. The gain I turn up. I always stay in the neck pickup.
