2x12 Cabinets - Orange vs Avatar Hi everyone..first time poster here, so sorry if I break any rules. I have a JCM800 2210 from 89, and am downsizing from a 4x12 to a 2x12, to go with my tiny nyc apartment. I play power-pop music ala motion city soundtrack (you can check it out here - www.thisisdarling.com). Anyways, I was about to place an order for the Orange 2x12, as I have played through them and have been happy (they have always delivered a full sound for a 2x12)...but I keep reading great things about the Avatar cabinets... Long story short...am I stupid for paying for a new Orange cab, when the Avatar is half the price? I am looking for something to help brighten up my jcm800 and give it more of a "radio" pop-rock distortion. So...orange? avatar? shell out the big bucks for a bogner? Help before I stay up all night reading threads! Thanks for your input.

I think speakers have to be very carefully matched to amplifiers because try as I may switching them up doesn't quite cut it with my amps at least. There isn't a "best" speaker there are only best pairings. I think Avatar makes a fine cabinet that you can put the speakers appropriate for your amp inside and save dough. For your amp and desired style you might go with the Hellatone 30's (broken in G12H30s) which I like on a modern marshall. The THD mentioned above uses an Eminence speaker and a partially open back for $600...I haven't heard it.

Orange makes amazing cabs! But I agree, that you have to try it to see if it pairs well with your amp /megl

The THD ported 2X12 has two different speakers that undergo treatment by the guys at THD. It sounds huge.

I'll take an Orange 2x12 over an Avantone 2x12. I'll take an Orange 2x12 over a THD 2x12. I'll take an Orange 2x12 over a Mesa 2x12. But I'll take a Mesa 4x12 over an Orange 2x12.

I'll take almost any good 4x12 over almost any 2x12. Just saying. If you're in a Manhattan apt. even a 2x12 is big, though.

| Lives for gear | I really like the orange 2x12 cab with vintage 30's ... I'll take it over a marshall 4x12 anytime ... I would like to compare it to a mesa 2x12 though
