| I kept forgetting to buy one, so I ordered one with all the options today. That's one expensive wah-wah pedal. I hope it's worth it.

I bought a standard Crybaby used for $25 and voiced it the way I like. I don't use it anywhere but for recording, so I doubt mechanical reliability is an issue. I think Wah's are subjective to what you need it for. I can simulate lighter wah effects with my playing style, so my wah has a narrow but heavy sweep just in the mids for a more vocal sound. I played around with a few different wahs, but the only other one I've owned was an old Thomas organ wah...which was cool...just not my thing.

Vox 847 man here. I like how it really warps the mids in a much thicker sounding manner than a Crybaby. I find Crybabies(standard, not one of the tricked ones) to be a little to high toned and not retain enough beef for me. If I was going for the RATM sound though, it would be Crybaby all the way.

I'm sure I've posted this elsewhere, but I have a Teese RMC wah that is just super duper. Not only that, Geoffrey Teese stands behind his products. The switch in my wah went out YEARS after I bought it, I wrote him, and he sent me a new one, no charge, with a wiring diagram. So if that's a consideration, Mr Teese is an upstanding guy. Also I do have another Roger Mayer product, the voodoo vibe, and it's solid as a rock. I imagine his wahs are fantastic too. |

I replaced my 'old' VOX wahs with a Fulltone "Clyde Deluxe" and love it.

If you can afford it the Fulltone Clyde Deluxe is a really great wah! Highly recommended - basically 3 different types of wah in one Its true bypass, has 3 different types of wah settings and the volume control is very useful and usable. The whacked setting has heaps of snarl and growl to it and is great for those solos when you want lots of travel, you can use the volume control to boost the level. I find this a great way of pushing the next pedal in the line (which for me is a triaxis). The Jimi setting is what I would call your more typical type of wah sound - not as much travel as whacked but very useful all the same. The Shaft setting can be useful depending on the context of the song - I use it a lot more when recording to get a different sound. One thing I really like doing with this pedal while recording is set it to the whacked setting, switch on the wah and there are quite a number of useful spots for getting a really bitey sound and just leaving it in that position for the take - much more dramatic than adjusting the tone controls on the amp, but totally usable. |

Check out Wilson Effects wahs. He makes a lot of different ones and the one I have (Rippah Q) is very nice. Uses high quality components and sounds very nice!

i have tried all three extensively and the RMC3 was the most amazing for me. I love it and its the sound i have in my head which is the sign of a true winner for me. I was very surprised with the CAE crybaby. It sounded really amazing even next pedals twice as expensive. Didn't dig the fulltone at all or the buddwah. A little to quacky for me. The fulltone had a setting I liked but with the RMC every setting sounded perfect to me. Morley just sucks. I have owned two and disliked them both immensely.

I have the bad horsie (II? the one with the center freq knob). Love the way it sounds, and the instant-on is awesome -- love not having to mash it to turn it on. (Also, there's an internal adjustment for how quickly it shuts off when you step off of it -- a super slutty feature that Vai insisted they build in) Once the contour button stopped working on me & I called Morley support; got a tech on the phone pretty quickly and he helped me fix it myself in minutes. I was impressed.

Very happy with an older Dunlop GCB95 wah modded by Keeley effects. They add true bypass and switch out the inductor for a Fasel inductor. Much better sound, doesn't tone suck, and actually hits the amp a little harder.

Never liked the standard Crybaby. Current got a Vox V847 re-issue that I like much more in terms of sound, but I'm still not totally sold on the sweep; seems to hit full treble too early in the sweep for me, but nearly all wahs I've tried have the same issue. I did try a lot of other wahs before plumping for the 847, it was the best I had tried, including the Fulltone Clyde, Morley and GigFx Never got to try the Custom Audio Eletcronics wah, which I've heard good things about.

The red fasel inductor changes the sound of the standard Crybaby significantly - which is why I had it modded.

Anyone here tried the Voodoo Lab Wahzoo? Been thinking about buying it, I like the options, and as far as I've heard, just on youtube, it sounds pretty cool, and has a nice sweep in the normal, but still I heard it on youtube.

The standard CryBaby usually just sounds like how I think a wah should. I've had 3 over the years and they all sounded a bit different. My favorite of the bunch was my first one - a '83 or '84. It was a bit smoother in the high range than the later models. But all have been similar enough and I'm pretty sure I couldn't pick them apart on a recording. It's gotta be first in the pedal chain (or straight into the amp) or it sounds funny. Wah -> Boost/OD -> Amp gain. I must be the only person to LIKE the switching on them; that click-squeal when you first hit it says "WAH WAH ENGAGED - PREPARE FOR WAH WAH" lol. It's solidly built - I always enjoy stomping on it at the end of a solo, that click is very satisfying. I once argued for keeping that sound in a recording - "waaahhh wah CLICK". It was at the end of a big chaotic outro and just sounded right. A bit of scratchiness can actually be cool in a wah too. It's all part of the sound. You can't get away with too much of it with cleaner tones but for rock solos it blends in with the distortion and gives a cool texture. |

I am looking for the new CAE MC404 Wah from Dunlop. Switching from Red to Yellow Fasel, boost, adjustable Q (inside) I have been listening to some demos and it looks killer and not expensive. |

I have used the fulltone and the 535q but have moved to the mxr/cae 404 and couldn't be happier. I have yet to find one I like better at any price.

i demoed a bunch of wahs recently. The RMC 3 took the cake. I was very impressed with the CAE wah which actually came in second for me. Budda is to quacky for me. Fulltone is ok but the modes are not to useful to me.

I just ordered a CAE wah (dunlop/mxr mc404), was thinking about the rmc3fl but couldn't justify the extra $100 for something I don't use all the time.
