order of stomp boxes?

Hi - how do you place your stomp boxes?

I go: guitar->wah->overdrive->gate->dynacomp->chorus->phaser->tuner->delay->amp

Why would you have your tuner after chorus?
I'd put it first.
You can put your wah before or after overdrive depending on the sound you want.
I have my compressor before my overdrive/distortion pedals. I suppose your order makes more sense. What do others do?

I usually put time-based effects in a parallel fx loop with the amp.

The rest go into a series fx loop before the input of the amp.

The order depends on how they sound, and there's only one way to find out.

yeah, it really depends on the sound i'm going for......b/c an OD/distortion pedal will react totally differently with a compressor in front of it than it will without the compressor. the same with a volume pedal, too.

i don't play amps with effects loops, so usually i run this way:
guitar->TU2->CS2->Jekyll and Hyde->H2O->Volume->amp. if there's a wah involved, it comes between the tuner and compressor.

i like having the compressed (even) signal hitting the OD/Distortion pedal and i want the distorted sound going into the chorus......and i want the volume last so i can do distorted/chorused/echo'd swells.

in the end, you've gotta figure out what sounds best to you.

cheers,
wade

I use one of these if an FX loop isn't available on the amp.

guitar -> foot volume -> wah -> od -> fuzz -> chorus -> delay -> reverb -> amp

foot vol also feeds my tuner

Mine goes this way:

Guitar - Volume- Wha- Whammy - Dynacomp - GE7 EQ - Sparkledrive - Super Fuzz - Switching system.

From switching system the signal is split in two.

One signal goes straight to one tube amp.
The other signal goes to the a separate preamp and the time based effects (set to 100% wet) and to a separate power amp.

The idea behind this is not having to use the amps' effects loop, which sucks tone.

Looking over at where the pedalboard is at the moment, I have...

guitar -> Boss NS2 -> Guyatone ST2 Comp -> Duncan Twin Tube Classic -> Marshall Guvnor+ -> Jekyll & Hyde (red) -> Fulltone Distortion Pro -> Traynor Custom Valve 40 (wine red) -> effects send to NS2 return -> old Lexicon MPX100 (ugh, but works) -> Effects return on amp -> THD Hotplate 8ohm -> 1x12 Vintage 30.

Clearly, this is my (main) effects tone! I have the rest of my amps mostly just guitar -> amp -> cabinet. This chain is for having fun, not getting perfecto tone.

The key to pedal order is what likes eating what. I played with the sequence above until all the pedals (and amp) liked eating the output of the pedal(s) before them (not oversaturating, but adding). I just set them to where they enjoy munching and I can then just play with various combinations on/off.

The Fulltone eats anything and asks for more...remarkable pedal. The ST2 gives me clean boost in addition to sustain (good for getting enough drive into tubes, or for level matching a strat and les paul). The Traynor loves pedals and its footswitchable channels are also used in all of this. The Hotplate lets me beef up with powertube crunch, and roll off some of the poweramp's hiss. I turn the NS2 off when doing staccato sections, but otherwise it provides a really clean presentation even cleaning up the amp's preamp. It also serves as a battery eliminator for most of the other pedals.

I have my board set up= Guitar -> Korg D-10 Tuner -> Vox Cylde McCoy Wah -> Analog Man King Of Tone -> Fulltone OCD -> MXR Phase90 -> Analog Man Clone Chorus -> Maxon AD999 Delay -> Amp (Bogner Shiva)

I have never liked the sound of anything through an FX loop, so all my pedals are in line. As long as you have decent pedals, individual isolated power for each (like the Voodoo Labs Power Supply), and good cables, the tone remains relatively un-affected.

Guit -> wah -> Dynacomp -> Maxon SD9 (Analogman) -> Sparkle Drive -> Boss DD-6 -> Presonus Smart Compressor -> Studio Projects VTB-1 preamp (Boss GE-7 in loop) -> Boss NS-2 -> Voodoo Labs Amp Selector (Tuner in loop) -> Carvin VT112/Peavey C30 (w/Vintage 30 and Fender input mods)/Fender Blues Jr./Fender Pro Jr.

Whew!

Running multiple small amps gives me an huge tonal palette...each amp can be set up differently...no reverb on the Carvin, delay in the Peavey loop, etc. Carvin and Peavey sound fantastic....kick in Pro Jr. for some grit....all four gets a little thick.

The compressor lets me shape it all up while the preamp gives me overall volume control as well as overall EQ control.

I like to run the SD-9 through the Sparkle Drive sometimes.

Usually

(Fender) Highway 1 Strat > (Boss) ME-50 > (Boss) DD-5 > Fender Hot Rod Deluxe

so

Strat > Multi-effects > Digital Delay > Amp

set up break down and get the smell out of there

I have tried several of these types of things...most recently the 882i...over the years, and the illusion never lasted past the return-for-refund period.

"4" is the highest setting I could even stand, and I soon realized even "1" was disgusting.

But hey, you might love it...

Yeah....you gotta be careful with these things. A little gives you all you want.....too much comes too easily and sounds contrived.
