Thread Starter | Using amp effects loop versus stomp box
When running compression during tracking, what differences would there be between inserting a rack compressor (LA-3A or such) in the effects loop of an amp (i.e. post-preamp, pre-power amp) versus using a good quality stomp box like a TC Electronic or such (i.e. pre-preamp)? Is it just a matter of taste? RA |

yes, it's always ultimately a matter of taste, but it's probably more generally accepted to run compression prior to the amp. compression is going to raise the noise floor, so doing this prior to the distortion/gain of the preamp generally keeps things less noisy. i'll go ahead and say YMMV |

I can’t help it. I just can’t figure it out. What does “YMMV” mean?
