Anyone recommend the Marshall Mode 4 as a "modern" amp?

Just curious about this amp as a complement to my Hiwatt 50, which covers some territories very well.

I'm after a versatile amp with FX loop and modern tones, and I really can't afford anything expensive.

If I can get this 2nd-hand I'll look out for one if it gets thumbs-up

i tried the mode 4 and found it to be a little too squashed and slick. i'd recommend the marshall avt100 or even the 150. its a versatile amp that has a "scoop" switch which can get those sounds, but you can just as easily turn it off, there's not one sound i havent been able to get with it. fx loop and some onboard fx if you want as well. i've had it for years and still love it.

i wouldn´t go for the marshall.its a, sorry, bitch of an amp.not good at all.
try to find a 5150 instead, sometimes they go for really low money.
IMO the perfect mate for your hiwatt 50.

Interesting you should say that: did a recording with both the 5150 and Hiwatt (not together unfortunately). We used the 5150 for hi gain stuff/solos. Worked very well!

My main problem with the hiwatt is the headroom for solo volume boosts.

Just ain't there, and sounds squashy.

Gonna experiment with changing tubes in P1 and the first postiton. to see where that gets me
