Who mkes an electric bass with MIDI well?

Has anyone had any success with an electric bass with MIDI? I know that Roland pretty much nailed guitar with the GI-20 and pickup, but has anyone tried it with bass? I'm not trying to go 80's here, I just want to be able to get trigger a Moog or SE-1 with an electric bass live.

Roland has a hex pickup for bass, the GK-2B. That and the Axon AX 100 would probably be the best solution to trigger midi notes with a bass.

the Peavey MIDIBass (or whichever the 2nd generation version was; I forget whether the DataBass came before or after the MIDIBass, but you want the later one). It combined Steve Chick's fret-sensing technology with a Roland-esque hex pickup, and functioned as a half-decent electric bass as well as a MIDI controller.

I have no idea if they still make it though...

(edit: Oh look, my 1000th post. Do I get a prize?)

Godin and Brian Moore both have a few models with integrated midi.

I've used an axon with the audio input for bass quite sucessfully. Maybe try that out first?
