I like my Taylor but also like my Gibson.
If it blows for you then fair enough, get something else.
ditto!
i have a number of guitars here, and they all sound great in the right hands.
i still love my Taylor, and it is still the one o reach for after many many many years.

its not the tool. Its the toolsman.

I'd rather listen to S.C. Chapman playing his taylor than most other people playing their fancy whatever whos'its.
He sounds great with his.
Tone is in the soul.

Marriage of the individual with the instrument - that's all that counts. If the manufacturers tried intentionally to make all of the guitars sound the same the couldn't. I am playing multiple instruments for 36 years. Most of the instruments I have purchased were spot purchases - walked in, fell in love, took it home. Don't get at all this "the entire line (or an entire manufacturer's) guitars suck, sound cold whatever"). Individual instruments have unique sound. Too much of a sweeping statement there ....BTW - did I mention - I have a Taylor for the studio.

I wanted a Taylor so bad for a long time until I actually got one. I believe it was the 710. I didn't like it and agree with the OP and am glad someone posted this! It always felt cold and impersonal for lack of a better description. Picked up a mahogany Martin that was much better, warmer, and fit in the mix much better. Then I played my friend's amazingly inlayed variant of a J-45 and felt like a chemical bond formed between me and the J-45. I couldn't afford anything like that so I recently got a Canadian-Made Gibson A/E that is no J-45 but way better than a Taylor!

Ree

PS I did have a baby taylor that was great for camping!

I have a 110e, sounds good, plays great. For the price, I can´t complain about anything about it.

I like the tones that can be had from an older Martin (pre-1959) or from a Collings guitar (from Texas) or from an old Gibson Jumbo....the only other guitars that I have played that I really liked was a 70s Yamaha FG-somethingorother. I have tried to like Taylors....maybe I just haven't had the right one in my hands....most 1950s D-18s are hard to beat for tone. Not overly bass-ey like a pre war bone, but still enough to let you know it's a Martin. Pre war Martin herringbones are in a league by themselves. There is no other guitar on the planet that sounds like some of these do. In a studio, though, they are problematic.

It does come down to personal preference. Mine is not to play a Taylor

My Taylor rosewood still trumps my Martin adirondack spruce & mahogany.

Taylor Factory Sale this Saturday

This is for all you "blow" hards:

Taylor guitars is having a huge sale at their factory in El Cajon, CA, outside of San Diego. They open at 8 AM.

They will have on sale hundreds of guitars with specials on overruns and those "scratch and dent" deals we all love.

Rush down, get in line and pick up a blow guitar for cheap.

Me, I'm still waiting for that lottery ticket to pay for my Santa Cruz.

I thought I was the only one, so this thread has shown me I'm not crazy. I owned a 612c (I think) and sold it a year later. Recorded a handful of the really expensive ones, $3000 and up and I thought they were all the same sounding: plinky. beautifully made, but made to sound like something I don't care for. That's all. I'm sure there's a (blasphemous) thread somewhere decrying the J-45 or the D-28, which to me are manna from heaven.
