Thread Starter | This May Sound Like a Stupid Question, But Here It Goes...
This may sound like a stupid question but here it goes. I was told that I don't need a PCI card (just SPDIF) to hook up the LavryBlack DA10 to my motherboard and that all my sound is converted via my software. Perhaps I was mistakened, but I was told that the converters (DA) are just for my mixing ears only, to help get a better mix and that all the sound conversion is done through my software (Cubase SX 3) and "IF" I chose to use an AES XLR input/output card, that it had NO CONVERTERS, just a card to connect the DA10 to. Does this sound right? Can I just hook up the LavryBlack DA10 to SPDIF, and my Cubase SX and my computer will do all the sound conversion? Thanks for your help! SEA |

The Lavry is a Digital to Analog converter. That means it receives digital audio from a source (your PC) and converts it to analog so you can send it to your monitors so you can hear it. Your software is not doing any conversion, the Lavry is the converter. You just need some AES or SPDIF digital audio output connection from your computer to the Lavry. It could be on a PCI card, it could possibly be on the motherboard, you'll have to check your motherboard. But how are you going to get sound INTO the computer if you have no interface card with an input and only a D/A converter for getting it back out? DP |
