Tried the search??

I tried em all... and picked the C1. It was a close tie with the C2... but I like the slightly more "retro" flavor of the C1.

I liked both of the Alan Smart units better than the SSL. It was ok... just something didn't quite excite me like the smart units did.

Tried them all...

And yes, this topic has been covered A LO. So "search" is your riend.

But to try and help, here is my summarized indings:

1. ALL great units. It is a shame to comapre them because they are different animals, particularly the C2 being compared as an SSL G384 (particularly an older one)

2. The C2 is great, perhaps the most hi-fi and precise/aggressive.

3. The C1 is closer to an SSL C1, but not quite there. Good in it's own right. none-the-less.

4. Personally I was looking or "that" SSL sound" and the newer SSL units didn't do it or me so I finaly found what I was looking for in the older grew SSL FX G384 (one of the ones cleared from the Hit Factory). It isn't a better or worse tha the Alan Smar, simply "that" sound I was after, one that has become associated with "SSL" and acts like a glue that satisfies my goals.

So, hope that helps. My two cents.

P.S. Alan Smart is a great guy and they will go out of their way to good to you!

Hi, in my case, the allan smart C2 sounds amazing, it compress even more dramatically than my old SSK, but... It do something to the low- freq range that I 'don't like,
It filter the subs, so for mix buss compression, I always use my old G compressor, and for drum buss ( except kick ) C2 is the king.
Best regards.
