I need a studio clock and 8 channels great AD/DA’s. I’ve looked at the Apogee Rosetta 8-channel, 24 bit/96kHz AD/DA Converter and the Big Ben 192k Master Digital Clock. This stuff sounds nice, but I’m on a diet. Need some advice to tame my budget, but still getting the most out of the money I have saved. I guess the Big Ben handling 192k is more than I need. I’m happy recording at 48 kHz. Any hints and suggestions are welcome. Thanks, nice to be here.

I don`t think the Big Ben is necessary unless your hooking up a ton of digital stuff that you want to sync together. Otherwise just slave everything to the Rosetta 800 and it should be fine. The clocks in converters this caliber and above are usually as good using a dedicated clock. The way a clock could help you out is if you were using lesser quality converters. If the Big Ben really does help out the Rosetta 800 it doesn`t say very much for this converter box`s quality. Kevin |

I got the rme adi 8 pro 24/48. I have read a lot how important it is to have a good house clock etc. Maybe the Rosette is enough? If so – great for me! Anyway I need more channels. And this time I would like to buy something else then the RME stuff. I’m also interested in analog summing, read a lot about the Dangerous 2-bus and Daking. I need some good advices this digital age is difficult to understand. I love my computer and it’s edit possibilities etc but I’ seeking for the analog sound… Thanks! |

I’ll have to take a rain check on my answer, I ordered the apogee yesterday and it hasn’t arrived yet. I bought the Big Ben for minimize stability issues with all my digital stuff, if I get an improved sound I’m even happier. I’m still waiting for the second Rme Adi 8. I’m going from mixing in the box to analog mixing for the first time so I’m much exited. I’m not a pro facility guy, just a home recorder with an A&H GL2200 console and tired wrist from the mice mixing. But if I hear an audio-holistic improvement in sound I sure will post here... check back later. |

I felt an improvement in stability in Nuendo 2, the application run smoother? I don’t know if this is a side effect of a better master clock? – Or maybe I’m just horny, looking at my rack! The sound was warmer I think? And more detailed, the whole system felt rock solid. I’m happy. I haven’t had time to test my mini me. | |
