good vocal mic to compliment Chandler Germanium pre

so I did it... I ordered a second hand chandler germanium (thanks James !)

It will be used mainly for male vocals (baryton kind and not sibilant at all),
I was wondering if you had some good (or bad) experiences with some mics ?
my curent mics are the sm7B and a modded apex 460 (with the peluso capsule)

Any comment is very appreciated
Thanks a lot,

I'm going to be trying out two OktavaMods, an Area 51 TT, a KorbyKat Fet, and a Neumann TLM with a Chandler Germ I'm demoing from VK this week. I'll be posting results later this week. I'm a female singer but I have a male rock range.

Nice! The Germ is sweet for sure but I found it a bit noisy at high gain settings with low output mics (most ribbons and dynamics) on quieter sources like vocals. I had great results with these types of mics into the Germ on electric guitar and drums. Good luck!

Craig.

Honestly, lately, We have been getting beautiful vocals through a TLM 103 ------> Germ , Its not the slutiest combo, but the combo definetly compliment eachother & worth a listen.
I also love U87ai , AT4047 & the KSM44. to the germ

KSM44 ----> GERM , for hip hop vocals has been slaying tracks all weekend.

Tamra - I am very interested in the KAT FET to the germ, keep us posted

I've been getting some nice results with a Rode NT2000 with my Germ. The Rode is a pretty bright mic, but the warmth of the Germ helps with that a lot.

KorbyKat FET was beautiful through the Germ (good w/both 1176 and STA-Level) very clear and intimate. Didn't work out well for my purposes because the pristine quality makes my vocals stand out of the "all recorded in one room together" basic tracks, plus as a rock singer I like a little more edge on my mic.

My favorites through the Germ so far have been an unusual OktavaMod 219 with robust SM57 like characteristics tweaked for me by Michael Joly, and a red badge Neumann TLM170R.

Also really sweet, though I prefer it with the Bob Payne mod Altec 1556A is the Area51 TT, a really great mic for half the price of the Korby. But the Korby is in a class by itself as far as the selection of mics I had to work with.

excellent Tamra,

very instructive, I also ordered last week an oktava mk319 modded by Michael Jolly (he knows his stuff and very nice person), I will report also my experience as soon as I can plug mic in the germanium (even if I have less comparaison points than you)

Take Care,

It seems to me that the Germ lends his great sound to almost any mic... Sounded even nice with my Rode NTK which I tend to dislike more and more these days...

I DID like my Beta58 for vocals surprisingly well through the Germ. Great sound on its own, just a different flavour, and not as "small" as I remember that mic through different pres...
