CMV 563 and M7 : back home after repair

This is free continuation of http://gearslutz.com/board/showthrea...hlight=cmv+563 thread.

Quick summary:
- Me and mr. Carloff have sent our CMV563s to Peter Drefahl and M7s to Gefell.
- Peter made some changes to Carloff's CMV, but he left mine alone saying it is in a top notch condition technically (even the tube looks like it is gonna live long)
- Guys at Gefell had reskinned Carloff's M7 and offered me complete change of the capsule for the same money (it had some corrosion)
- Gefell also provided boxes for M7 capsules for free (thanks!)

Price:
I've paid something like 550euro including postage and bank fees. Carloff paid more, because of the new finish etc.

Now what we have here:
M7S is newly sealed and it looks good through grill as to be expected. I also have other M7S that is all original and from the same 12xxx serie. This capsule was OK and I've used it on some recordings previously and liked the character, but hating what happends to HF when EQing (but also without processing).

From a very quick tests on my own voice, I hear less distortion/rigidity with the new capsule. Highs are definitely smoother. There's no point in writing more, hear it yourself.

Conditions:
It is recorded in a room that's not finished yet, but I've done my best with rockwool sheets laying around. Also the computer noise is , but it doesn't stand in the way to percieve differencies, tonal quality and esses (in czech language there is a lot of sibilance going on).
The chain is my trusty Manley Dual Mono > Lavry Blue, mic is powered by Power Technik Tubelife 2 modern supply.

Enjoy and let's wait for Carloff and Ivo making some comparisons to Horch. Should very interesting...

Will be back with anything interesting I'm going to find out...

Yes, we tried it here yesterday too (the other one) . The "new" CMV looks indeed very nice and also sounds quite nice. ... Kind of gentle, "overmellow", honeylike, with slightly boosted mid-bass (sceptics would say "slightly under a blanket) . Not that full open and clear as the usual high end mics ... but in the right application it can sound great ...

I didn't hear much of a differnce. I really didn't hear any difference between the old sample and the new, and I'm listening on Sennheiser 580 cans through a Coleman -- good playback, in other words. But I'm still not hearing it.

I'm sure it's me. And now I'm depressed.

Jasper
PS -- They both sound good, though.
