I've heard from several sources you can only do 2 tracks at a time with the mbox2 although to me it doesn't seem to make sense. Yes you can use an A2D thru your Mbox's spdif, shouldn't be a problem at all.

I'm doing something very similiar. I have the A2D and I run it with my Presonus Firebox. I use the SPDIF on the A2D and bypass the Firebox. I don't use the Firebox converters at all. So to answer your question you should be able to do what you want.

too bad I can't get 4 inputs combining A2D with the mbox.

I also have a Vintech x73i, can I use that with the A2D? bypassing the preamps and only using the a/d converters into protools?

I'd say they're much better, technically speaking.

Its a steal people. Buy them before the price goes up to $2000 where it should be.

Oh, I am...

but does anybody know if they are backordered? I have been waiting for months for a dealer in Sweden to have them in stock! And I need it now...
Don't want to do more work on my Digi002 converters and Toft pre's if I can avoid it!!

If you have the MBox2, you can...just not with the original MBox.

This is exactly what I was planning to do, it's the quickest way for me to get 6 inputs for tracking drums and excellent stereo conversion, and try the API sound as well.

Does it matter that there's no clock connecter on the Firebox? When I get a Fireface would I link it to the A2D? I think the A2D is Superclock and the RME is Wordclock, although all this clocking business is gibberish to me so far.

Also would the API be best on overheads, or kick/snare? My other preamps are two Millennia Origin STT-1s, and the two Firebox pres (which I'll put on toms). I've already used an NT4/Origin combo on overheads with good results, just curious where experienced API users would use them first? I realise matching pres would probably be the go but until I know what I want and have the cash this is my solution.

Thanks for any replies guys. I love this site!

Cheers

Yes you would link your firebox to your A2D. There's a connection on the back of both units for you to do this, if that's what your asking. I am no API expert but to answer your question about drums I think it works for everything equally well

Yeah I know I'll go spdif out on the AD2 to spdif in on the Firebox. What I was asking was regarding the clock...there's no clock input/output on the Firebox. I don't think the RME Fireface, which I plan to get soon, has superclock either. Will I need clocking of some kind?

I am not a %100 sure, but having no clock input/output on the firebox doesn't make a difference. I'm running my A2D into the Firebox, and my Firebox is going into my computer. You know that guy Tony Belmont from High Profile Audio, he knows a lot about these units because he sales them. I'm sure if you email him he'll answer any question you have. Good Luck
