I just received a reel of 499 and have yet to try it.
I agree
Starting a thread with a title like this means even when the problem is resolved, the cmpany get BAD press....

We have never had a shedding problem with the new RMGI tape. (911 and 900)

I think this thread title is grossly unfair.

I think the original poster should withdraw it.

I too experienced dramatic shedding with the first batch of RMG 900 half inch that I purchased a few months ago.

RMG confirmed that I had received some of the bad tape and gave me some reels to make up for it.

In the last two weeks I've used over 20 reels of 900 half-inch and the tape has held up just fine.

I will say that, in general, the 900 formulation is a tad "dirtier" than other formulations. This was true of the original BASF/Emtec formulation and seems to be a bit more true of the current incarnation.

Just be a bit more diligent about swabbing the heads and you'll be fine.

Peace,
sdw

Cool,

Only thing is its 2" so it might be a bit hard to tell

So I am not alone with shedding

Sorry to report that I just had this occurring to me this week with RMGI tapes. Again 900, both 1/2 and 2" tapes and several rolls of 911 1/2". Tapes delivered to us 2 months ago.
I called RMGI (not USA...) and they will replace all the tapes with new reels. Very good service.
This was a disappointing experience indeed. BASF used to be the thing back then... I hope these guys get their act together, with more "accidents" like that one they will be dead in the water.
Again, RMGI handled the situation in the best manner. Will report back when the new tapes arrive.
Good luck.

Well i wish i had some good news.........

First when i spooled the tape i noticed the hub and flanges are not aligned so the reels are way of balance the Quality control of the reels and hubs is bad

i got 4 reels of RMGI SM900 and was trying to align the machine and there was so much shed that tracks started dropping out i had to clean the heads every few passes

i am totally bummed..........

i can run GP9 for 12 hours straight and when i clean the tape path there is very little or nothing on the Qtips

oh well i hope they get it right soon........ i have a huge session starting on Monday and i cant imagine trusting this tape

i didn't get the tape locally (it came from tapes.com in NY ) and they want me to pay for 4 more reels and then they will decide if my tape was defective before they refund me any $$$ argh........

I wounder how they will test 2" tape ?????

bummer

Why not just contact RMGI directly? It seems that they've been very responsive to this issue and you could eliminate the hassle of dealing with tapes.com.

Cheers,
