Thread Starter | Barefoot: wouldnt it be great....?
... to have smaller nearfield monitors from Barefoot to have a surround setup? Currently I believe Thomas doesnt make any small models and the MM27's...well too pricey and too powerful to have these babies in a 5.1/7.1 setup I guess ;-) I'd like the idea of a system with one "sound" so no 2.1 monitors from say Genelec and additional monitors from another manufacturer. In this context buying the MM27's would mean 2.1 and that's it... |

Thomas and I are working on such a product. Although we're still a ways away and haven't quite figured out what it will be.

The contradictory thing about making a more affordable product is that it actually requires a lot more money and resources on the side of the manufacturer. You need to buy parts in large quantities, more people to build them, and large facility for those people to work, etc. We're still a small company. Hell, I already have a waiting list for my $6500 speakers! Right now, if I had to fill orders for a $2500 monitor, I'm afraid I would find myself standing of the railing of the Golden Gate Bridge! Anyhow, we'll get there eventually. But there are still a lot of pieces that we need to put in place. And I want to take my time, because I find every reduction in performance very painful. So it will take a lot more effort to build affordable systems with the absolute minimum number of compromises. As far as using the MM27 in surround systems, I understand the point about affordability. However, it's certainly not TOO powerful. We have customers using our speakers in 5.1 setups. Ideally a surround monitoring system should have full range speakers like the MM27 all around. Bass management (feeding the low frequency surround content to the LFE channel) is a big compromise.
