Atlanta Studio

Hey Everyone,

I need some help. My brother's band is in Atlanta and is looking to do some recording, but I have no connections there and I was hoping you all could help.

They're only needing to lay down drum tracks for 4-5 songs...so we're talking about a one day session. They know a guy at a great studio (Sonica) who will give them a day for $700. It's an amazing deal and they know it...but it's a bit more than they have to spend at the moment. Do any of you know of a medium-range studio near ATL that's decent for drum tracking for a bit less money?

Thanks

You could try Muse Productions. I believe that they are a little less expensive than John Brigelvich's place down at Sonica. I think it's somerwhere around $500/day (I could be wrong).

Even less expensive than that is Spotlight Sound Studios. The rates he has posted are:

Studio time:
$45/hr

Block rates:
$199 (6 hours)
$250 (8 hours)
$300 (10 hours)
$1150 (40 hours)

Mixing: $100/song (mix recall $45/hr)

Hopefully that will help.

The places I'd suggest would probably be more (Tree, Southern Tracks, Doppler studio E, Stonehendge at ZAC complex...). I think they should bite the bullet and go with Sonica. It's a big room and an API. They'll get great drum tracks, and that's a good price. It's an investment. They can supplement their cash with a couple hundred on a credit card. It's worth it in the long run.

Tree, Southern Tracks, Doppler studio E, Stonehendge at ZAC complex are all great studios and you can not go wrong..
Also I have been to Pig Pen studios and can tell you for the money you can not beat it. He has GREAT gear (a bigger gear slutz then ME), is a great guy and seems to know his stuff pretty well.

Try working out a deal with Curtis aka'Fritty Loc' at Patchwerk. I think he's still the manager there. Should still be in business doing 'big' business.
