If you used an outboard DA converter like a Benchmark, Grace, Meitner, dCS, Prism, Lavry etc, it would sound better than all the mentioned CD player.
The CDSD-DAC8 combo from Meitner is the best way for SACD playback - and CD playback as well.

I always use the same DA converter for monitoring regardless of the source. Only this way you can make real comparisons.
That also includes the CD player.

I guess the Meitner can easily stand against the audiophile brands you named - Meitner is also on the audiophil market. Take a look at "The Absolute Sound" - this magazine describes the Meitner player-converter combo as THE reference.

If you want alternatives I would name dCS or and Burmester. Have not heard the other players you named besides the Denon, which is definitely leagues below.

Meridian is another great brand. Ive seen them in a couple of high end classical studios. that 800 is about 20,000 usd or so...

I think they are probably in the same league, but haven not heard them side by side. The advantage of the Meitner is the combination with their CDSD disc transport, that can be slaved to the DA converter.

As you probably now it is always best to clock a converter intern. This is only possible with the EMM Labs combo. All other high end DA converter have to lock to the signal coming from the player. Most do that with a PLL circuit which is always worde than a stable internal clock.
This is also possible with SACD playback where the CDSD disc transport feeds the DA converter with the DSD signal. All other players cannot output DSD.

Are you looking for the best sounding CD playback solution?

Or are you looking for a every day 24 hours high demand plaback machine with professional features from connectivity to lots of different playback modi, RAM buffer and so on?

If the first, you could still combine one of that pro players with a great external DA converter to get the best sound.

Is it means that all pro studio grade Sony CDP 3100, Sony CDP D500, Denon DN-951FA,TASCAM DV-RA1000, marantz PMD 340, studer D730 are same in term of sound quality if I add an external D/A converter?

But why Sony CDP 3100 more expensive than Denon DN-951FA,TASCAM DV-RA1000,marantz PMD 340? and why marantz PMD 340 much cheaper, those of them of the function and spec. are very silmilar.

Is Sony CDP 3100 better than the above CD player?

I am looking for the best sounding CD playback .

If you add a real high end external DA converter - YES.

Of course there are integrated hiegh end CD players. But i would not regard the above mentioned as high end.

Why would you look for a high end integrated CD player in a studio environment? If you want monitor propperly what you are doing you need to monitor with one DA converter for different digital sources. That menas also listening to a CD with this one DA converter.

What are you really looking for?

I am looking for a good cd player but I find many so called high end cd player have their own characteristic "colourated the sound",not natural so I want to find a natural, accurate and stable cd player

If I add a prism sound/genex dac,Is it using less expensive marantz pmd 340 cd player, the performance is same as sony cdp 3100,studer D730,DCS and weiss janson cd player?

Thanks

Yes.

The only thing which could affect the sound is jitter. But even a cheaper player is able to output a low jitter digital signal.

The Benchmark DAC-1 has a remarkable design to be almost jiiter imune.

On the other side every converter works best with internal clock. Only dCS and Meitner have players which can be slaved to the converter. This is the best way you can play a CD.

The second best way is - in general - an integrated player because clock signals have short ways to go. If you took a DA converter like Prism, Meitner, Benchmark, … inside an integrated player you would probablay have a better performance than using the same converters as external units.

All the players you mentioned are at least a league below high end external converters and in summary you get closer to the best (unflawed) sound if you combine them with external high end converters than using the worse internal converter.

Try it!
