What do you think about the TL Space ?
With the same IR, does the Altiverb sound better than the TL Space ?
Do you think that convolution reverb sound less than a digital reverb like a 480 ?
I still prefer the sound of real room ... but for anything else like plate, spring, ect ...what do you like ?
Regards.

... which wasn't the unit's fault of course. Don't you love these guys ?
The DRP-16 is a completely different reverb! Definitely NOT Top Five.
If you can't get hold of a DRP-20 or DRP-20X, the next best thing would be a DRP-15 - DON'T buy a used DRP-16, working or not, and blame ol' uncle Feinstrom for recommending such a mediocre reverb :-) !
Cheers,

DRP16 and DRS20 are two completetely different type of reverbs! DRP20 cant do stuff that DRP16 does. DRP16 is super industrial-age machine and just priceless for some things but definitely not for drums & percussion! Mi´ thinks. But yes offcourse it´s thrashy in a 80´s way.
So NOT mediocre in any way but DRP20 is, since there is better machines of that type nowadays.

In order for naturalness IMO. I'm sure the order would be a bit different if it was rock / pop.
-Silas | Hi Silas! Have you heard the Bricasti yet? I would say the closest to the DRE I've ever heard. Alot of guys are dumping their 6000's and 960's for this box.

Klark Teknik DN780... (AMS alternative, cheaper, built like a tank, cleaner sound/less character).
Lexicon L480 if money is no object... The best reverb to mix.
EMT reverbs like...
EMT 140
EMT 240
EMT 250
Are top notch... The 140 is not that expensive related to the sound quality you get, but it is a real heavy weighted "PLATE" which needs a lot of room and calibration etc...
The EMT 250 would be the first reverb if I have too much money to throw out the pocket! Really cool, gorgeous machine it is...

And different than any of your digital plugins. Has very good quality transformers...how can you go wrong?
Try it...

I´ve just moved mine about 100 km and driving about 60km/h all the way...be careful with it or you end up with broken coil... and remember it´s best moved in vertical position WITHOUT anything between the cylinder and the box so that the floating mechanism can do it´s job and reduce the energy of the movement to the springs. At least thats what they are saying at AKG... but if it´s impossible to avoid the horisontal position it´s really not the end of the world.
I just changed all the old caps from the signal and psu and it opened up the sound a lot. BTW you probably know that you can get the full service manual here: Library - Download - Service documentation
Can I ask how much did you pay for it?

I won't transport it myself and I told the guy to cover the pickups, secure the springs somehow and don't put anything between the barell and the casing. He'll be transporting it horizontal though. It is also around 150km far from me at the moment.
The price was 6500 czech crowns, which is ~ 250 euro at current exchange rate. Not the cheapest cheap, but certainly not expensive at all. BTW I paid ~40euro for the echomixer... and it seems they are for even less on german ebay time to time.
Sorry for spamming the TOP5 reverbs with lowend junk, but this is the echomixer ;-) |

Plenty of crappy mics and tape machines floating around. In Germany it's usually crap. The Echo Mixer is good though. Not IMHO great, but good.

well, you´re right though Echomixer is good and in some cases great...
And on a more serious note i´d like to add that MOST of the things that says TELEFUNKEN in it IS high end... including many tape machines...M15a...

(by the way, I am a big fan of the good telefunken stuff and their consoles, but people pay way to much for pretty shitty consumer mics just because of the telefunken logo..) |

Solid State Logic | Hey Sam, as a representative of SSL, where would your company market the upcoming X-Verb? A little bit of corporate marketspeak is acceptable and understandable given your positition... Is this a value oriented verb or do you feel it is a top of the line verb? We will of course be able to confirm or deny once we get a chance to play with it. It wasn't really clear to me by preliminary information what compromises were made with respect to price, performance, and DSP overhead. I'm not going to debate analog / digital, but when it comes to digital, I will debate the usefulness and value of hardware based DSP units (in so much as one must have dedicated DSP hardware to be good), as native power and software maturity should bring us to the point where it is software implementation that is paramount to usability and performance.

Ok, point understood: That VHS is quite bad...
But I was ofcourse thinking more the original Telefunken 50´s-70´s STUDIO equipment. We all know that stuff.
And yes, they made very crappy mics also but it was the consumer department shit.
How did our Top5 Reverbs- thread end up with that VHS machine?
But who cares it says TELEFUNKEN (You know my Name, look up the number)
