Thread Starter | Buying a vocal microphone and microphone pre I am a solo artist that records on a Digidesign 002 factory. I am putting together a higher end home studio. I am going to record my album in this studio. I have a Fender Telecaster, Gibson Les Paul, Fender Bass guitar, Fender Deville 4x10 amp, Triton Studio 88 keyboard, Martin acoustic. I am going to record vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar (miked up), bass (DI), and keyboards. Going for a U2, Coldplay sort of vibe. For vocals and acoustic guitar I was thinking about going with the Blue Kiwi mic going into a Blue Robbie mic pre or Vintech 273. Your thoughts.... Other microphones I was looking at in my price range were Charter Oak 538B, Mojave Audio, SE Electronics Gemini I just got a AEA R84 for my ribbon vocal mic but I need a good versatile large condenser for vocals and acoustic guitar. Which mic pre will sound better with my AEA R84? How would the Kiwi sound going into the Vintech 273 ..... there is no tube there. I would like a not muddy, warm, clean, and not harsh sound for the vocals. I love the Soundelux 251 but it is out of my price range. I was thinking about picking up some 2 channels of Lavry blue AD/DA convertors and the Waves platinum bundle as well. Your thoughts ...... Thanks |

| All your choices sound good to me, it's really a matter of taste anyway. I'm not familiar with the mojave mic, but I've recorded with all the others and liked them all. For a ribbon you need a pre with quite a bit of gain, but anyway if you're looking into high end stuff, most will. I've never been a huge fan of Vintech, they're good, don't get me wrong, they just don't offer the flavour I'm looking for. I've always liked Chandler products (not JUST because it's my name ), you might want to check those out. BAE stuff is great too. For the converters, you might want to check out The universal audio 2192, I doubt you'll be dissapointed, it's an amazing converter. |
