Recording Drums with Neve 88R

Hi,

I'm about to record drums in a studio with Neve 88R, anyone recorded drums with it?
What's it like? Compared to other Neves and/or SSL's?

Best,
Peter

Hi MrKidd,

Find out if the 88R has the standard mic pres or the optional upgraded ones.

The standard ones are OK, nothing amazing, workman-like, capable, 5532 based gain.

The optional pres are dead quiet, clear as a bell, open high end, AD797 based gain with some other parts of the circuit changed as well.

If it were me and the console has the standard mic pres, I would get some outboard pres.

Jeff

Oh, also, ask if the studio has any of the remote mic pres. They are outstanding.
