Tone

In no particular order

Steve Lukather
Steve Stevens
Michael Landau
Michael Schenker
Larry Carlton
Yngwie Malmsteen
Eric Johnson
Jimi Hendrix
SRV
Brian May
Allen Holdsworth
Scott Henderson
EVH
Brian Setzer
Neal Schon
Greg Howe
Mike Stern
Norman Brown
Albert Lee
Eric Clapton
Mark Knopler

But maybe it comes down to favorite guitarist although I love Steve Morse but, I'm not too sold on his dirty tone.
There are many more but, you get the picture.

Wow, I'm thinking as I type, but here goes.

Eric Johnson
Van Halen
Michael Schenker
Yngwie
Roy Buchanan
SRV
Jeff Beck
Jimi Hendrix
Brian May
Anything tracked by Dave Jerdan
Any guitars mixed by Andy Wallace

I can't really think of any right now.

A few of these are more vibe and musicality than tonality.

Just my kind of thing!!! I'll split my favorites up into genre.

Rock/Metal ---
Nuno B on III Sides to Every Story - Sick sick sick tone!
John Petrucci
Dimebag - not my thing but you know its him!
John Fogerty - Either with Creedance or Solo - He Rocks!
Eric Johnson - Ah Via Musicom - I think his tone has gotten worse over the years!

Country ---
Brad Paisley - Hes the man!
Brent Mason - Hes the man too!
The Guy from Rascal Flatts - Love his tone in some songs.
Vince Gill - Some don't like him but you cant deny that he's got tone ooozzzing from his fingers!

Solo ---
Tommy Emannuel - His acoustic tone kicks some serious slutty ass!
Johnny Hiland - Can get "Ice Picky" at times, but his playing makes up for it!

Oh there's so many more I just can't think of them right now. Has anyone ever heard of Scotty Anderson? I just found out about this guy and wow does he fly. He may be old news but hes new to me. This guy will make you want to put all of your guitars away and give up!!! later all!

dime was the ultimate in terms of the tone fitting the music like a glove and nearly defining the style of playing. it lent itself to just tasteful, awesome parts that really made pantera what they were. on the lighter side of things, dredg has some great guitar textures on el cielo. i have gotten bored of most of the other guitar tones that i have loved over time

One that sticks out in my mind is "It's My Own Fault" on Johnny Winter And Live.

I don't think you can separate tone from the actual playing. ie. the tones people love always seem to be pieces that were *played* super well too.

One that still does it for me are the solos on "The End" by the Beatles on Abbey Road. Absolutely fantastic.

Wow, it's crazy that you posted that, because I was about to. It starts and ends with those two for me.
