I just got notice that I'm next on Gunter's list to get one
of his U47s. Being that he's in Australia and I'm in Texas
it's going to be impossible to try one of these before buying.

Wondering... Any of you Slutz in the Austin or Dallas area
have one of these that you might allow me to come by and
hear?

OR do any of you'se guys have recordings made with yours
that I might be able to listen to?

Any other thoughts?

thanks

Rue
(maybe I should just go to Australia. Hell, I could have a few beers
with Soundbloke, he loves Yanks!)

Since we're going to talk Wagner here, if anyone has had a chance to hear it against a Horch I'd love to know.

Also, what is the Wagner costing these days and what's the waiting time?

One thing I always hear when comparing vintage mics (decent ones) to the new recreations is that the new ones sound....well a little new. The vintage mics tend to have that funk factor that gives them just a bit more character, and even a bit more definition than their contemporary counterparts. Even though the Horch is truly a killer mic, in the two times I have put it up against a real 47, I have preffered the 47 by just the slightest margin. Amazing how close it comes though.

I am particularly interested in U47 remakes because the originals are so expensive and the vf14 tubes are fast becoming extinct. I own the Horch, it's great, but for once I'd like to find a modern mic that beats its vintage counterpart!

Hows abouts that Wagner?

The Wagner U 47 is away from sounding sterile, yet very intimate and open .
