Very nice clip. Good on Mr Grohl for assisting them. The music is fabulous. I love that tune. It is uplifting. Very catchy. Instantly loving it.

I wonder if they used any of those tape machines.. or just turned them on for the video.

Cool stuff, though.

Man, I'm instantly hooked on this band. Very refreshing.

Btw, I was checking out one of their songs "Doing the Most" and I'm so in love with the sound.
I know this may be too general question but wondering if it's mixed with API 2500 comp. The song somehow gives a similar vibe with Spoon's Transference album. Anyone? Here is the song link.

Sounds and looks really interesting. Thanks for the heads up.

Also, looked like vintage 414EBs' on Grohl's toms? And vox on a u67?

Hm. Tasty.

Nice video and nice tunes!

The mics on the toms look like C12-A's.

Wow, the guy is everywhere and really can do no wrong. He records an outstanding rock album, while shooting a documentary on his band, then directs a documentary on his favourite studio, records another great rock album with a supergroup, plays with Paul McCartney and also does studio work... And all of this being a down to earth guy. Fantastic, Dave. Keep on rockin'

great "making of" video, one of the most interesting new bands I've heard from that part of the US (will definitely be looking forward to seeing them live some time), Dave nailed it on the drums too!

The drums would have sounded better if they still had that old Neve console

i feel this is a rare gs thread where the music comes first for everyone and the slutty studio is just the icing on the cake.

Very cool band indeed. I had the privilege of working with Andrei one of the band members, on another project a number of years back in Northern Va. He was very talented and great to work with. We really had a good time in the studio. I'm very happy for his success.

That and if they hadn't messed with the room. Which is a complete bummer.

Also The Beatles didn't practice in there..... To my knowledge. If anything they would have been allowed to practice at Capitol if they were in town for a Bowl show. Much closer and they were a Capitol/EMI band. Those weren't the days where you could just pop into other studios. Sound City wasn't around then.

Regardless. Cool band. Dave rocks. Cool songs.

Yep, the 3 coolest things about Sound City were

1. The Staff = Gone

2. The Room = Gone

3. The Console = Gone

No need to be bitter. I think Kevin is doing a great job with the place, why shouldn't he make it his own...

I think back to the Sound city movie.. During the entire movie I feel like the big question is why did a studio this great fail.... It failed because Bands like the Foo Fighters stopped going to studio's... But I think Dave recognized that, he's at Kevins studio supporting his industry.. The industry looks brighter to me, I'm excited that this new video wasn't done in Daves Garage...Neve or not...

Looks like they took some Mr Clean and paint to it. The live room looks like it did with the lights full on. The control room has a different window, and different equipment.

I am glad to see it's still a recording studio! I think the live room gave it it's vibe, personally. Love Neves and Studers, But it's time to move on.

He's doing a great job for someone that bought their way into the music industry.

It was all about the live room. The old CR was no gem. Workable, but not part of the magic, IMO.

And why the bands stop going to those places?! Right.. budget, timing and AD's behind them... It's not only THAT, that studios like this are gone. So much more elements.

To dave Grohl. "Hey I got this brand new band, it would be cool if you could play on the track".

Dave "How much?"

Amazing drum sound though, I wonder how they got it that way... Samples? No Samples?
