Compressors

You'll be seeing alot of my silly question over the next few days.
I'm making a big investment and don't want to make a bad discidion.
I apologize in advance.

Right question one.

Compressors.

Which would you choose,
1. Rupert Neve Portico 5043

or

2. Avalon VT-747SP

Whooey.... that depends. is it for tracking, mixing, vocals, guitars, bass, drum oh/rooms, kick, snare, piano, etc... or is it gonna go on the 2-bus?

What kinda music, what's your rig like now, what do you want it to sound like, name, rank, serial number, etc...

If you wanna make most people here happy without asking questions, get a Distressor. Not my personal fave, but that doesn't really matter.

If I were you I'd skip both of those and get a couple of Distressors.

Thanks lads.

It's main job would be to bring punch and volume to my stereo mixdowns. I'm sure it will get some work when I'm mixing too. I don't know for what until I know I need it.

Since posting this I rang around and asked the question, most people rave about the avalon and have little or no experience with the portico. Also, I am shallow, the avalon has the bling factor so I think my mind is made up.

Mightn't be the best reason in the world but it's a reason at least!!!

Punch on the mixbuss?

1) Some kind of SSL type buss comp

2) Focusrite Red 3

3) API 2500

One of the above should do the trick.
