Sampled drum settups for pop/rock

high there slutz!!
well lately i have been doing some free producing work for a freind that rights stuff like avril and kelly clarkson etc..and im trying really hard to get that sound for her as she has big talent and if i get it right it may just help launch her into the industry!!
so im trying to achieve the drum sound at the moment and im confined to library's such as DFH and sonic implant, bob clearmountan etc,i havnt had much succes of yet,

generally i will set up a multi instrument in logic7 and asign each drum to there own Aux,from there i will do the typical cleaning up of the samples, some compression and eq,i tend to like like psp vintage warmer and DFF BLOCKFISH for compresion and the Elemental audio equim for eq!,then i will bus the hats all together, the toms together and if using the DFH plugs i will bus the room and overheads to there own bus,if im not using the DFH plug and im stuck with the set samples if will mock up a room overhead sorta bus with heavy compression eq and reverb and send the samples to that to taiste!!
now ive played around with all sorts of eq and compression settings and i always hear that engineers tend to squash and prosess the hell out of overheads and room signals to get the pop rock sound,i just cant find any success with what im doing!!
im at the satge where i really need some advise from people that are using samples succesfuly in there tracks to maybe shine some light on the situation for me,
i would really appreciate some input on how u set up route youre drums into buses and aux etc and the sorta dynamic processing involved!!
any help would be very appreciated!!
thanks
