Neumann KM54 & 56 power supplies

Will a KM54 power supply work on a KM56?

Yes.

They were both designed to work with N-52 supplies... they all run AC-701/k tubes... just like the M-49, the M-50 the Schoeps M-221, the Telefunken ELA M 250/251 [non "E" version].

The idea was that any/all of these mics would have interchangable power supplies, it was a "broadcast standard" for the time... which was why the M-269c was invented... the 269c was the AC-701/k version of the U-67 that was designed specifically to work with the N-52 power supply standard. Neumann couldn't sell U-67's to broadcast facilities because they used an EF-86 tube which didn't comply with the N-52 PSU standard.

With that said... some mic have had their cable pinouts modified/altered/fvcked up since their birth so you might want to check the cable to make sure it is pinned up properly to work in an interchangable manner.

Peace.

The power supplies were built into the German Radio consoles along with directional pattern controls.
