A-Designs Pacifica or P1 - which sounds better to you?

Hi guys, im on the market for either a A-Designs Pacifica or P1, and was just wondering which one sounds better to you? If you had a choice to pick one which would it be and how do they differ in sound? Ive searched but only came across a very few answers. My gut is telling me to go with the Pacifica, but id like to get a few opinions if possible. Thanks alot guys!

They are both excellent.

If I had to choose, I would get the Pacifica.

There are tons of thread on this topic.

This is what I understand:

The p1 was modeled after the pacifica. Many of the components are identical. But they definately had to make some sacrifices on the p1, to make it fit in a 500 series rack. From what I understand the transformer is smaller.

That being said, I have a pacifica and it is absolutely fantastic.

Either way you'd be a winner! I just chose the P-1 because it was the most cost effective at the time. Let me say this thing absolutely KILLS!

Hi Guys,

First, let me say thank you for considering A Designs Audio Products.
I would think that either the Pacifica or the P-1 or any of the EM-Series would be a good choice BUT what might be the right sound for others may not be the one you are looking for. If you have done your homework and think that the Pacifica or the P-1 is what you would like then the next step is for you to take a look in your pockets.

If you have a 500 Series rack already then I would say go with the P-1.....BUT if you do not own an API or BAE 500 Series then I would go with the Pacifica.

Either way (IMO) I think you would be happy.

Also thanks everyone for the support!

Have fun,
Peter Montessi

Do you have a 500 series power supply or would that be part of the purchase equation as well? Personally I would go Pacifica between the two, as numrologst mentioned the P1 is the same but with a smaller transformer so it does sound different. The Pacifica having its own power supply = higher cost of course, but will likely react to transients / volume / bass better because of it.

Here is the clip page mentioned:

The A Designs Solid State Shootout (500 series + Pacifica)

I'm a huge fan of the BLUE.

i would not call it a sacrifice, just a different tranny and a slightly different sound.

i like the 500 form and generally recommend it.
this form is high end and allows many options with limited space as well as portability with a lunch box.
if you are planing on multiple pre's this form can save a few dollars in the long run, if you just need a couple of channels that my not be the case.
sound wise i do not think you can go wrong either way.
