Given the information you provided here's what I can offer by way of suggestions:

1) Turn the preamp up until you're getting a signal into your recorder...not too much gain to clip though.

2) I wouldn't track using the compressor on either kick or snare but sometimes I might.

3) I can't offer suggestions about eq because eq-ing should be based on how/where the drummer hits the drum, the drum quality itself, how the drum sounds in the room, how the drum sounds in the mix...I could go on and on...

What I'm saying is there are really no "settings" to suggest due to so many variables.

My experience with them is that they are not ballsy enough for drums(too polite) Believe it or not you CAN make it work but you'll probably have to use some pretty extreme settings. So TRY the extremes, the advantage of this box is that it's pretty hard to make it sound bad, by that same token you have to really push the EQ and compressor to get them to sound agressive! A far as settings for the eq and compressor, it is impossible to tell you what exactly whitout hearing the source or how the drummer plays. You WILL like it on vocals and bass because the very smooothness that makes it too soft for drums makes it perfect for these sources.
Hope this helpsthumbsup

As far as using it for snare? It wouldn't be my first choice. For kick I've used it before with an Audix D6 and I got pretty good results. It's a good combo because the D6 is a pretty snappy sounding mic. I use minimal eq when doing this because I make sure that the actual kick drum sounds good before I start turning knobs. Maybe a little compression to keep the kick levels pretty consistent. This all depends on the drummer of course. Having said that, I dont really use the 737 for kick any more, instead I use a Focusrite ISA 110 and that pretty much is my go-to for kick drum.

I'm currently using the manufactures settings on kick and snare, I'm pleased so far, I've havn't had much time to experiment with other settings.
The snare is a maple DW with a coated Ambassador head, I'm a experienced drummer so I hit the snare pretty consistantly with a rim shot, it gets a nice crack....I'm trying to achieve a very true to life tone, on both Kk and Snr. What would your considerations be for a good mic pre for both. I was considering the LA2A or 1176

Thanks.....
