Thread Starter | Slowing a track down
Just read the other thread about speeding a track up - I have the opposite question. I'm working on a record where the band played live in the studio - without a click to maintain the band feel... The drummer was fine, so it's pretty tight, but... Once they started, every take got a little faster... The final take is about 4 BPM too fast, which came to light when we were trying to overdub the lead vocals. What is the best way to slow it down? I think it's easier to make things faster in digital because you will lose data instead of having to stretch it... I'd love to keep the pitch, but if it ends up being unusable... I don't have tape but would it be best to copy to tape and slow it down then, sacrificing the original pitch?

Re-track. Give the drummer valium. Or just give the vocalist some coke/speed. |

Thread Starter | Unfortunately, re-tracking is not an option... Otherwise I'd prefer to go that way, too.

It's been my experience that time shifting slower usually gives worse results. any time flux is made 10 times worse and it sounds streached. Are you using PT? I havent used it in a while, but there was a plug-in called serato pitch n time that was the best I'd heard on that stuff. IMO more than a few ticks in either direction was suspect though . . . .

You could wait until it's done and let the mastering engineer slow it down using great converters and half-inch analog tape. DP |

Get Melodyne Studio and all of this won't be any issue at all. It takes about a minute to do what you are asking and sounds great. - www.celemony.com

He was also the voice of "Simon" on "Alvin & the Chipmunks." Amazing what those mastering engineers can do, eh? | |
