I have a dream...

I have a dream....

I have dream of updating my studio this fall/winter to a monster (at least in my eyes/ears. I have about 10kEuro to spend…).
Until now, I have recorded everything through my Mackie 32-8 board.
I’m not saying it’s shit, I’ve done a lot of cool projects with it. But I’m starting to hear/feel its limitations… The EQ, Headroom *sigh*

Now I’m thinking of a serious upgrade.
First of all, let me explain my situation:
I do mostly metal/rock. And that basically means that the drums get recorded first (8-12 channels). And the rest of the stuff is recorded one track at a time.

My Plan “A” is:
Neve Portico 5012 (OH´s)
API 3124+ (4 mic pre´s. Snare + Toms)
And the remaining stuff (maybe hi-hat + ride I´ll continue doing ´em with the Mackie)
API 7600 (for the track by track stuff. I’m talking about bass, guits, vox, everything + additional stuff)

Would that make any sense???

First I planned to get some serious outboard comps as well (C2, Api 2500), but the Liquid Mix proved me wrong, that damn thing sounds great!!!!!!

Then I started thinking about the Cranesong Spider…. I mean, today I have a MOTU 2408 mkII. The Spider would give me a better AD as well…

Then someone said that the A-Designs Pacifica is the shit for OH´s….

Aarrgh!!!
Decisions, decisions…..
Ok slutz, hit me!!!!!! Hit me hard, I can take it!!!!

the pacifica is "the shit" for a lot of stuff, not just overheads. i'd steer clear of buying preamps to just use for this or that. use them for everything. great preamps will always work great on different stuff. there are rare occaisions when something awesome sucks on something awesome...but it's rare. very rare.

buy two of everything and get to work.

How about the Spider.. I´m sure it has been discussed before.... But someone said it sounded pretty close to the API. Really???
Then I have this gut feeling that the TFpro P10 would be "smooth ´n clear" for the OH´s... Or am I trippin`?

Another idea would be to upgrade the console and forget about the outboard mic pre´s... Maybe Amek? Trident?? Would I regret it???
