OSA Micpres opinions?

Hi there,

Hi, has anyone had any experience with the OSA gear? Specifically the pres... for a rock vibe?
How would it compare to a Chandler LTD-1 or an API?

Thanks,
~AJ

Really good pres... got all of them, quality flavours! There are many threads about those... you might want to do a search about them as you might not get many answers because of that!

I can compare the OSA with other pres now because I now have 2x OSA MP1-L3. I actually bought them on Ebay and I can tell you it was a great find.
As I only had them for a short amount of time I really can't go into too much detail, but I did compare them with my API 3124 on vocals and piano. To me the OSA L3 are similar to the 312 but with a bigger bottom end and with plenty of headroom.
It's still early days for me, but I'm very happy with L3.

Thanks for replying. When you say you got all of them, do you mean all their various types of pres? (Sorry, I'm not that familiar with their line of product). If you are talking about various pres, how do they differentiate from each other?

Thanks for your insight.

i have an OSA "mutant" which i find is a very decent pre, i'm not sure it stands up completely under intesne scrutiny when compared to API's or A-designs but as it is the cheapest of the lot bang to buck it is seriously impressive...

i would say that other brands deserve a look and maybe of interest such as A-designs... one thing to remember is that despite all the options (xformers / opamps etc) they are all based roughly on the same design so the differences may not be as noticable as you might expect..

so in closing: they good

all 500 series are good

Yeah I've got the L3, A, C and L. They all are very good quality pres and got a great tone to them. As Nick said, they've got plenty of headroom which makes them great on drums, vocals and plenty of other stuff... L3 got lots of bottom end, C are very much like a 312 (identical design) nice and punchy Mids, A got a lot of Top and the L is tonally the most balanced between the lows, mids and highs. So all the flavours you need..

Thanks!

Thanks guys for all your info and insight .... I will look into it. I assume Atlaspro audio is the only place in the US that distributes them?

thanks again!

I have the C... I like it to get some grit on gits.

Compared to the API 512, I think its a bit warmer and grittier in an Old School kinda way. Same arena though.

We have a pair of Cs and the 11 space rack that get used on every project...API zone....can't compare to Chander (never used one)...

They are keepers, for sure.
