What's the most desperate thing you've done to acquire gear??????

I've maxed out numerous credit cards, sold gear for peanuts to buy other gear, traded for other gear and took a major loss, visited the pawn shop numerous times, and many other "unmetionable" acts. This is a never ending struggle. I should just be satisfied and write, create, and enjoy what I got. But what about that other compressor, mic, pre, amp, guitar,......ahhhhhh!!!!!!!

Anyone else??????

I once crossed a street outside of a crosswalk, to get to the other side to meet this guy who had a compressor.

And then there was the time I did an illegal U turn cause' I missed the turn to get to this guy's house who had a nice tube amp.

I feel better now that I've confessed to these acts. I've promised myself to stay within the boundaries of goodness, regardless of the killer deal right around the corner...

I sold my 05 maxima to get a a few mics and kept enough to get a good bicycle so i could get to work. I made my mom remortgage her house so i could get few high end pres and compressors. I used up all my moms credit and my brother couldnt get approved to pay his 2nd semester in college. I worked 2 part time jobs just get more gear.

while still at school to pay for my first Strat I took up cleaned and relayed an entire parquet wooden floor brick by brick while living in the ahole owners house for the summer with him looking over my shoulder.

every evening tired and dirty I looked at the little fender catalogue

i took the staten island ferry from manhattan to meet a guy who i conversed with on the net to buy a mic......he pulls up in a black caddie and says "get in...let's go for a ride"

i had $500 in cash for the mic in my briefcase which was no big deal, but I also had about $30,000 in rare fine art photographs that I was brokering for a client. I was a bit nervous about that aspect as this guy was very "connected looking" (if ya know what i mean).

it all worked out fine....and i still have the mic....Sennheiser MD409.

lied to my bank to get an extra 2 grand on my loan to buy a new drum kit.

couldn't help it, fell in love and it was in a %50 clearance sale.

red mahogany drums are just so damn sexy.

some green tea leaves have passed through my dirty hands.

but what WOULD i do for some real nice gear? like 8 channels of Wunder preamps? or some tashty german mics? depends how many pints ive had that night but it could get pretty depraved.

regards,

richie.

That's not desperate, that's called "being driven" and it's cool. Stuff like that makes for great memories. Maxing out your credit doesn't.

I just told my girlfriend that we are NOT going for a week in Greece as we planned half year ago, because I had to buy the Drawmer 1968 ME. But although she did not stabb me with a kitchen knife she is pretty pissed and I am sure I will have to go for a credit on this one. Oh- and of course I have a huge debt with my parents budget. Love them

Cheers

When I was 15 I pulled weeds out in front of the North Valley Jewish Community Center in LA for a summer to raise the $160 for my 1964 Stratocaster. I got $1.25 per hour, it was 1967. This was the same place that nut shot up all those women back about 6 years ago.

The worst was building a Neve format spectrum EQ from scratch, why did I waste that much time on that?

I decorated the outside of my Mother in Laws house so I could buy a pair of AKG C414EB s with CK12 capsules.I did the credit card thing once but managed to pay it all off and I have sworn I will never go that route again.

Homeless people live better than I do sometimes.

Dog food tastes exactly the way it smells--DELICIOUS!

I max out every credit card I can get my hands on.

I drink PBR and feel guilty about spending the money.

I would sell body parts. I'm not kidding. I will sell you my other engineer's body parts if you want. His liver is better than mine. (Sean, if you are reading this, it's just a joke, and I have no idea why your coffee smells like chloroform.)

I don't do anything. If I can't pay cash for it, I don't buy it. I don't have any credit cards, and don't want any either. Not only is spending money you don't have really really bad for you, but the things you could buy with the money you spend on interest are amazing...

i once converted to zoro-astrianism for gear - just once, though

oh, i also celebrated my caucasian roots, and danced my native caucasian dance from my dear native caucauses, further celebrating my deeply rooted caucasianisms.

that's word on my seed, son.

I slept in a closet for 5 years while building my studio up. The studio took up the whole appt (1 bedroom) and I didn't want to spend more on rent so I had to put the bed in a closet. Women aren't impressed if you sleep in a closet.... All the while working corporate with a suit, like a capitalist bitch for a very evil company. Spent EVERYTHING I made on gear. Worked out well, but I paid for it with 5 years of my life. Oh yeah, and a large piece of my soul....

Oh and to the "I sucked %$#@" guy, not necessarily bad.... really depends on what piece of gear you got! thumbsup

I sold my dead Mother's body to some guy in Alaska who said
he was going to use her as 'bear meat' to try to catch some man-eating
grizzlies... I think maybe the same one's who ate that guy in
the documentary.

I used the money to buy an FMR Audio RNC!!!

MAN... this has GOT to be the best comp for under $200!

Played acoustic guitar/sang in the NYC subway for a year.
It was actually fun....but I remember once when I had to play outside the subway to get money to get inside the station to play more music

Yeah, me too. It feels a lot better to get new gear knowing that I own it outright.

I sold my 944 to buy gear. The streets here were way to rough for my suped up 944 and I could not bear to drive it here anymore so I sold it, bought a rusty old Honda and bought gear.

I've put a lot of things on the credit card but those days are over. Now it's cash or no gear.

When I was around 15 I wrote a letter on an oldstyle typwriter (the ones that not align the letters very well) to the Italien company Siel. I wrote that if they send me a synth for free I'd promise to put their logo on stage... I never heard from them!
