Mogami.

Had monster 100 & 500 series. I did an A/B test and the Mogami did have a clearly sound. Not like "DAMMMM" but it was a little more open sounding. I guess the real quality shows when you combine multible signals........the extra quality in each cable now make a bigger difference. I didnt think cables really made a difference until I heard it for myself but taking the time to test and compare.

Maybe you should try a few out before you rewire your setup.

Mic cable = Belden 9182

HDR to analog console, either Kimber PBJ or 20 awg military silver teflon. Console out to A/D in = Kimber AGSS silver. Speaker wire = Kimber 8TC. S/PDIF = Kimber AGSS. Console fader wire = Kimber Black Pearl silver.

I don't wear jewelry, I listen to it.

Gotham. Dunno if that's "high end" or not, but I switched from Canare and find the Gotham to be more neutral. They're quite inexpensive as well.

Quad is actually pretty messy in the low mids and dark on top as compared to something as normal as Mogami ez id. I use Acoustic Zen silver cables for monitors.

I'm a big believer in the "run everything at least once through a boombox JUST TO SEE" so I've got lamp cord running to the nearfields. Hey--if you can make it happen with lamp cord...

Van Damme Cables as used in Abbey Road Studios, i dont usually see many people in the States using this brand but they really are amongst the best their is when it comes to hi-end cables.

i have not tried mogami cable.
i have used belden, i have just had good luck with canare.
a note: i have a hard time thinking a company that turns out $50.00 mic's is really making a quality cable, but that has just always been suspect.
i have no desire to replace what i feel is good cable for something i know very little about.
beldon and canare have worked for years in many studio's.
at some point i guess i need to try some mogami as i will be redoing things at some point.

so lucey tell me do the low mid's sound smeared or just dark can you elaborate on messy.
this maybe a topic to start a new thread about, ( just what we need another cable thread )

It's all clearest on mic lines ... dark with a low end/low md bump like a loudness curve, a scooped middle (nothing there) and a distorted top. Mogami ez id is cleaner and thinner.

For big mids, clear low and highs you need to go up to Cardas Blue cable, I think they call it 2 x 23M. Unfortunately, since I started talking about this unlisted product in their line it's gone up 3x, since 1999

Still, as mic cables go you will be amazed.

For line cables the Mogami is fine.

Can you comment on where you use VOVOX?

How you tested it?

And how it's better than your past choice?

After a test I started to be interested in cables. Have thought it's all esoteric before...

Here's what I found for NF:
Neutrik: Harsh, not very detailed.
Mogami: Euphonic in the wrong way (the frequencies do not fit together)
Gotham GAC-2: rather neutral, but washy mids (that's the same with Neutrik, a bit less with Mogami)
Van den Hul MC-XXX (102, I think): really nice, clear and clean, not spectacular in a really positive way
Silver Sonic BL-1: clear, nice, detailed, a bit euphonic in the highs, but in a positive way, they don't fall apart from the rest; lows are not so great
Silver Sonic Air Matrix: same as BL-1, but still nicer; fuller lows
NBS Monitor III: This blew me away, but it's very expensive. Great in every way.
The same goes for their LS cables (except for the Mind Serpent cables, which are not so great).

Silver Sonic LS cables are good, the Q-10 is fuller than the cheaper one (T 14 I guess).

Silver Sonic is really good and not so expensive. I tested cables from XLO etc. which were much more expensive but didn't impress me at all.

Transparent is said to be very good, but I've never heard one. Same goes for Cardas.

Combination plays a big role - the NBS sounded really bad combined with Silver Sonics...

But at the other hand 2 meters of Silver Sonic Air Matrix between a microphone and 8 meters of Gotham GAC-2 made a clearly noticable (positive) difference (compared to only Gotham).

Redco for mics and gear
Mogami for monitors (gold studio) and patch cables (2552/molded).

Could you decribe what your testing process was like?

Thanks!

It seems to me that if there were measurable differences between cables then they should be.....well, measurable. You know, graphs and charts and such. Anyone have anything like that? I'm seriously curious about this and am open to the possibility that very expensive cable is worth the cost.

Best Regards,

As soon as I hear "well this cable has stronger more present mids, this one tighter bass, etc., I can't help but bust out laughing.

Maybe we can figure out which cables make it louder so we can lay off the limiting?

Location wise..I am in Germany.
I use their XLRS and Shorter Version XLRs for interconnects between my mic/pres/adc/recorders. I am a location recording guy, all classical/acoustic stuff.my chain is always mics>>pres>>adc>>recorder, no compressers/limters/eqs etc.. I havent done any "scientific" tests, but the vovox seems to be more open/detailed than the cabling(mogami/canare/audio magic) I was using before. Kavi Alexander of waterlily suggested that I try them.I did, and immediately replaced all of my other cables with them. I really love that VOVOX isnt insanely expensive like "boutique" cabling. I dont know how to scientifically test cables, but what I heard was enough to justify dropping to coin on 60 cables or so. They are very affordable.

Brian, if you want to try a pair, I can send a pair to you.
