AT4047 along side a royer 121 combined with a 414 about five feet back. You'll get a very thick and smooth result.

I like to put an sm57 straight at the cone and a Beyer M201 looking at edge of the speaker, like an XY pair in a 45 degrees angle. The 57 give the guitar bite, the M201 more warmth (darker). I mix them 50-50. |

I'm working on a gtr jazz trio CD at the moment and am creaming over E-47 in front, 4038 back and 160 8-12' in front of a Blues jr and a sick collection of vintage tele's and strats. The band can't believe the gtr tone we're getting Thanks to Mr Lawrence for the heads up on the V-stack! Bloody awesome little box!!! This guitarist tried mine and immediately ordered his own. Thanks Muddy! |

2 57s work better than 1. Put one in the center close to the grill or the cloth, put the other one 2" to the right and 2" back. Don't worry about that phase bullshit because you mix it to one track, it's a sound, it won't ever change once you print it. It was shown to me by someone who has a bunch of super famous credits and I've used it ever since and it is 100% bulletproof. Any similar mic to the 57 (HC) will work also. Audix mics work well for me now. I've always liked the 421 (HiFi). The beyer 260 is a wonderful mic. I have 3 but they're usually tied up somewhere else if I'm tracking. O/Ds I put up a 421 a 414 a U87 a 57 an M260 on the best speaker I hear (I usually gobo off the amp alot) and bring them all to the desk assigned to one buss, normally the guitarist and his head (if it's a combo it's more difficult, you can go crazy with those things lot's of walking around and head scratching, I ve done them in the control room with headphones for everyone) are next to me and a big set of monitors in the control room, if there's a producer too we all decide on a guitar sound (1 mic or a mix of mics) and print a couple tracks and comp it right away or do it at a comp session, if necessary. Choices to make immediate decisions on a sound and how it goes with the track, no doubts.
